I’m so sorry to hear of Gay’s passing. I worked with Gay and Angela in Crumlin hospital and have very fond memories of them both, there was always laughter around Gay. I’m truly sorry for your loss.

Gay was part of the core fabric and DNA of Crumlin Hospital. In the 16 years I worked there we crossed paths almost every working day: she was so kind, considerate and astute: particularly when one deviated from their normal menu choice!
Her incredible ability to greet everyone who walked through the canteen doors by first name created a home from home for all of us working there. She was one of a kind, had a heart of gold and alongside Angela looked after all of the staff, patients and their families so brilliantly.

I hope the many wonderful memories of Gay carry her family and friends through their grief in the months to come.

I was lucky to know Gay for over 20 years. She was the heart and soul of Crumlin. No matter what happened she was there and always had the smile and the wise words. What Gay didn't know about Crumlin had not happened yet or was not worth knowing. A constant friend and colleague. I will miss her greatly. My love and prayers to all Gay's family and friends.

I have only had the pleasure of knowing Gay since 2018 when I started working in Crumlin hospital. It was around the time someone started that health kick in the canteen and opened a salad bar. Who better to “woman” it than Gay!? Eyes twinkling she sussed all newcomers mercilessly, before (if you were lucky,) she added another name to that prodigious lexicon she carried around in her head.
“Ciaraaaaaawn,” she drawled: “I’m heading out for a fag, so make your mind up quickly - beetroot or coleslaw?” And then that hearty laugh. You and your colleagues in the canteen keep the hospital alive Gay. Thank you. You’re already missed.

Ah Gay, the Canteen is just not the same without ur ray of sunshine

I left OLH in 1998 and during the years that I was there, you could be sure that when you went into the canteen there would be at least one moment ,when Gay was on duty, that would make you smile or laugh or just feel encouraged. I cannot think of Gay without remembering how she was with Angela and together like a double act, I was made to laugh more times. I did not realise you were sisters until I remarked at an anniversary mass for your dad that it was so good of Angela to attend. The answer still makes me laugh. I have never forgotten how I would be mirthfully directed from one dish to another and how often Gay brought joy to a day. If I have not forgotten her all these years later, I can only imagine how immense the grief is for Stephen, for Angela and everyone in the family and among Gay’s friends. I am sorry to have been away at the time of her funeral but glad to have learned of the wonderful tribute to her at the hospital on Friday. Gay made a difference to many people and I hope that big heart will inspire you long after the heaviness of grief lifts and that hard to imagine time when grief becomes something that can be lived with despite not wanting a death that came too soon. May she rest in peace and may her joy and sense of fun live in each of you. No doubt, those memories you have will feel like whispers from her when you remember how she would be in the small and private moments she shared with you all.

Gay was a very special lady...she and Angela cheered up our lunchtimes in the canteen in Crumlin Hospital for many years...she was always cheerful and helpful...she will be sorely missed by all her friends. May she rest in peace.

She was one of the pillars of Crumlin and minded me like a mammy when I came all the way from west Cirk in 1990 to the day she unexpectedly left us only a few short months ago. Her humor and banter kept me going during many a difficult day in CHI. She had a genuine interest and kept up to date with all significant events in my life’s. The day she became a nanny she bursted with pride and I know baby Zoe brought her so much joy. She will be sadly missed by all. CHI has lost a good one. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam💜
