Rest in sweetest peace dear Gael. We first met in the 1980s when you came into the travel agency where I was working and bought a ticket to Togo. We formed a friendship around Africa and Teresa and I stayed with you in Lomé in that turbulent, dangerous time in 1988. We’ve stayed in touch - you in Schull, we in the UK – and saw each other every few years. Not often enough. I last saw you in February and you hosted me in your cottage with typical generosity and enthusiasm. We talked non-stop it seemed for 24 hours! Thank you for the artworks you insisted I take home with me – to add to several others we have around the house. You were a fizzing inspiration, the kindest and wisest friend, and the most loving mama to countless cats. You were also, it must be said, full of mysteries. If anyone reading this would like to reach out, I’d be very happy to share memories of Gael with the friends who knew her, but often didn’t know each other.

The world is a village. Gael was my English teacher and friend at the American Cultural center in Lomé, Togo in the late 80s. As i was a political activist, i would hide at her home sometimes when the agents of the Dictator were looking to arrest me...i miss you..i now live in Chicago, and i am a recording artist. It is 1AM here and your spirit came to me. And i searched on Google..and learned of your passing. Rest in perfect Peace
