Garvan was master with Irish Shipping and we sailed to Australia, Townsvile my brother flew up from Sydney and he allowed him to stay in the owners cabin for a few days. I was an engineer and had my wife Mary with me. Thanks to him a gent.

Deepest sympathies to Garvan's family and many friends, especially Emilene. I met Garvan when I worked in Merrys over 10 years ago. Like clockwork, he'd come in at 5 every evening for a pint of guinness and to do the crossword. I have heard so many of his stories over the years yet never the same story twice. And every story more interesting than the last. Only a few weeks ago he told me he had the first ever Irish female cadet on his crew. I'll miss him and his stories so much but am lucky to have such fond memories of such a lovely man. Rest well Ga.
