Mr O'Donovan, never could I have imagined walking through the doors of FCC as a first year, the domino effect your kindness and warmth would bring. This gave the feeling of a safe place if you ever needed to talk or needed advise, this is something that continued for 6 years I was in the school. Little did I know this would carry through to my children. Both you and Ms. Boyle will never know how much your support, kindness, understanding and empathy impacted in such an incredibly positive way. It was and still is priceless. An amazing man, whose kindess and warmth, smile and caring nature will forever be remembered. You were one of a kind and feel so lucky and privelaged to have known you.
Ms. Boyle, Eoghan and Sinead, I am so sorry your umbelievable loss, we will be thinking of you all, and Mr. O'Donovan has left a forever.imprint in our hearts. Sending love and hugs to you all

My sincere condolences to Carmel, Sinéad, Eoghan, and all the family.

Mr. O’Donovan always had a smile on his face and time for a chat, never in bad form. He was incredibly supportive, gave great advice, and always went above and beyond. I’ll always remember the kindness he and Carmel showed in giving me lifts to school from Blessington during the snow and ice, making sure I got in safely.

He is a huge loss to FCC, but he certainly won’t be forgotten. Everyone I’ve spoken to over the past few days shared nothing but fond and lasting memories of him.

To the most wonderful, beautiful family we know.
We will hold Gary in our hearts and look back on all of our amazing memories together forevermore.
When I think back about Gary I remember so well all of our nights in Ashton singing karaoke together until all hours, our trips near and far from the Lough to Alicante, Gary teaching Eoghan, Sine and I how to play hurling with passion, watching many a Cork match together and hanging the flags out of our homes so that Ashton was undoubtedly a rebel estate! I loved when Gary made his regular trips down to the house bringing with him Carmel’s incredible baked goods and many a funny story.
Gary and Carmel’s love story made me hope and strive to have even a quarter of their love and respect that they held for each other.
The love you all have for Gary was so clear and I see your dad in you both - Eoghan and Sine. What a tribute to him you both are.
Gary - Rest in Peace and we will forever keep your memory alive through our two families’ love and friendship.

Sincere condolences to Gary's wife Carmel, daughter Sinéad, son Eoghan, his brother Finbarr, family friends and colleagues.
Both our familuws were near neighbours and friends growing up at The Lough in Cork.
Reading the many condolence messages, Gary was well loved, highly regarded, and the powerful ways he touched peoples' lives on.
I'm reminded of the words of the poet Mary Oliver who wrote -

"Instructions for living a life:
Pat attention
Be astonished
Tell about it".

I hope that for Gary's family, the many memories expressed by all who knew him, will indeed 'tell about it'.

Mr. O'Donovan was always a friendly face around the college, fondly remember all the time and dedication he gave his students especially in Sixth Year as we prepared to finish Secondary school.
