Sometimes God brings us to the pits in order for us to reach the summits. You are going through the pits now but God will bring you to the summit some day. You will reach the summit.
Dear Annabelle & family.
I was deeply saddened to hear from Andy Gibbon of Gary's passing. Having met at Wells Hall, Reading University in our first year, we forged a friendship which became very close in our second year as housemates on Wykeham Road. Together with Ian Spincer, Ed North and Andy Gibbon we enjoyed a marvellous & formative year. We did meet up after that, but were out of touch for a long time. However, over the last few years we enjoyed several good chats, for which I'm truly grateful. I am so pleased to know that Gary had such a fulfilling life in Ireland, and adored his family. He was a wonderful man, as evidenced by all the heartfelt messages posted. I felt great affection & admiration for Gary back in our day, and on hearing his voice and catching up this was only heightened. I learned much more on observing his both heartbreaking and heartwarming funeral service online. A truly fitting tribute to a wonderful person. My love to you Annabelle, Jenny, Edward, Tina, Daniel and all those close to Gary.
Yours, Russ Egan.
I am very sorry about Gary I was on the climb too that day.
So Sorry Garry often spoke to me about the Bible Garry converted me to Jesus Christ my saviour I believe that Jesus died for my sins and I am saved by the Precious Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ because of what Garry told me. Tank you.
Very sorry
Deepest sympathy May the fruits of the Holy Spirit fill your home today like it did on the first Pentecost.
I wish to express my sympathies on the untimely passing of Gary. I had the pleasure of working with Gary several years ago. He was a true gentleman. My sincere condolences to Gary’s wife and children, and his extended family.
Jenny and family wishing my deepest condolences.
I was the Mountain Rescue volunteer who attended to Mr. Abbott on Mwealrea. I got to the scene as quickly as I could - within about 30 minutes of receiving the call. This was about as fast I could have hoped for given the location, but still unfortunately much too slow. He was clearly a fit guy. We did our best to give him a fighting chance, but it wasn't enough. I'm so sorry for your loss.
To Gary's family, whom I knew not, I was absolutely devastated to read the news of his passing from Ian Spicer. Gary was at Reading University with me in 1987-90 and introduced me to a friend in Sevenoaks after a church visit prior to a trip to India; I have never forgotten the fun we had...
Gary and I re-ignited our friendship after the last University reunion and I was looking forward to meeting up again in the spring. His walking was inspirational for me, as for others, and I will mis his regular "smiling" posts.
Your quote is a tough one to acknowledge and yet so simple...we can plan all we like, but the Lord alone knows the timing...Luke 12:16-21 (the rich man and his barns) was the CoE Lectionary reading in the last few weeks and preaches the same salutary message; we cannot know the timing, so we must always be ready.
Rest in Peace Gary, till we all rise in glory, Amen.
And to his family, may His Peace and Grace be sufficient in the sad and difficult days and weeks ahead.
Deepest sympathy on the sad passing of Gary. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Abbot and Carter families at this sad and difficult time following Gary’s untimely passing. I had the pleasure of working with Gary in SouthWestern “a few” years ago and was shocked to hear what had happened. I hope you get some small consolation that he passed away while supporting a worthy cause hiking on a mountain. May Gary rest in peace. 🕊
You will always have Gary in a deeper, more powerful way he will always be your guiding star and your guardian angel. Gary is on your side. If you trust in God during these times God will deliver you to brighter days.
To Jenny and family I offer my condolences. I met Gary on the MI Winter meet in Scotland last year and I met you both at Cronins Yard. I just heard of Gary’s tragic death now, on my way to the Austrian Alps. We will remember him there. A gentleman! Oh how he loved the mountains! Cobhrón ó chroí.
Dear Annabelle, Jenny and Edward,

Dear Annabelle, Jenny and Edward,
We have written to you but, having just watched the beautiful funeral service online, we wanted to say what a fitting tribute it was to the wonderful man that was Gary. He was a true gentleman indeed and we agreed with every word that was said. We shed many tears but laughed too. We were so sorry not to be able to be with you in person but thank you for enabling us to share in this beautiful service as we say not farewell, but "Au revoir!" to Gary. I'm sure many more memories will be shared now over refreshments with your friends and family in Bandon. You will continue to be very much in our thoughts and prayers. May the life that is longer, the help that is greater and the shepherd who is better continue to provide you with the comfort and strength you need over the coming weeks, months and years. With so much love, Tania and Steve xx
