It feels very surreal to be leaving a note on a condolence page for Gavin …
Gavin was a bigger than life, joyful character who lit up this world with his smile alone.
Whilst that smile shall live as a memory forever when I think of Gavin, there is a star up there now shining brighter than before.
Dearbhla, I can’t even imagine how you begin to navigate forward without your partner in life and crime. You have 30 years of memories built upon your time together with Gavin - those are yours to keep and hold dear and they will get you through tough times.
My sincere and heartfelt condolences to you and the entire Burke family at such a sad and difficult time.

While I never knew Gavin, I can see from the beautiful tributes, that he was a mirror image of his Mum & Dad, who I had the pleasure of knowing many years ago, while serving as a young Garda in Newtowncunningham. Annette & Martin, you & your family are in my thoughts & prayers at this very sad time. Fond & treasured memories of my young days with the lovely people of Newtowncunningham.

So sorry to read the news of Mr Burke's passing. I remember him subbing classes when I was at St Columba's and he was renowned for his kind and gentle nature, along with his great sense of style! If I remember correctly, he would often chat about the football with the class too and enjoyed cracking a few jokes. He had a great rapport with us kids. I hope Mr Burke had many happy years in his career and his personal life, and am so sorry to hear that he left this earth much too soon. Rest in peace Mr Burke, my thoughts are with your loved ones at this heartbreaking time🙏

I didn’t know Gavin was unwell - I was shocked & saddened to read of his death on the library door yesterday. I met him in the library, indeed I always quickly scanned the room for him on entering & was so enriched by our encounter on leaving.
Thinking warmly of all who loved him & will undoubtedly miss him, as I will.

So sad to hear the news of Gavin's death. My condolences to Dearbhla and family. I had the pleasure of working with Gavin in Logroño and we shared some great times. He was such a kind and friendly person. I remember walking down the street with him and he really did know everybody! We'll miss you amigo!

Gavin was one of most gentle and kind people on this earth. Always looked forward to having the chats with him in the Library over the years . He left a wonderful impression on everyone that knew him especially his time spent in the choir. Gavin you will be sorely missed by so many . RIP
