I am writing to offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family, children , relatives, and friends of the late Gemma Hussey.

I am very sorry for your loss last November 2024.
I will remember Gemma and her family, relatives in my prayers.

I read Gemma’s book cabinet diaries in the past few years and it was very interesting book about her political life in government in the 1980’s. She was a good politician for county Wicklow also and good minister in Garret Fitzgerald’s government in the 1980’s.

May Gemma and her late husband both Rest In Peace.
God bless and Take care,

From,
Mr PJ Mooney.
Maynooth , county Kildare.
Dear Rachel, Ruth, and Andrew, I was deeply saddened yesterday when I belatedly learned of Gemma's passing. May I convey my heartfelt condolences to you - and Gemma's beloved grandchildren - and to all her extended family and friends. In addition to all her attributes, achievements, and contributions to public life in our country recorded here, I was lucky to have witnessed so much of her passion for social justice and the advancement of women at close hand. Gemma invited me to join the 'Women in Media Work Study Group'- which she had been tasked to Chair by the RTE Authority - in 1979 and report the Findings and Recommendations, which were significant, in 1980. Gemma was a doyenne to me at that time - intelligent, perceptive, dedicated to aiming high with a long view of what needed attention to bring about change. Later as Minister for Labour, she appointed me to be our Delegate to the OSCE Project: 'The Role of Women in the Economy'. Characteristically generous with her time to guide and mentor, she was undaunted in enabling women to play their part in politics and public life . She leaves an enduring legacy to all of you and her grandchildren: I hope that her memory living on will help ease the pain of loss that you are all feeling now.

My sincere sympathy to the family of Gemma Hussey. I never met the lady but I was always impressed by her commitment to improving the lot of women. Her actions as a politican were always driven by her integrity, honesty and fearlessness, at a time when conservative figures of church and state strove to keep women"in their place". Gemma Hussey was a leading light in that extraordinary gruop of talented and articulate women politicans, who indeed "rocked the system". You must be very proud of her.
Sincere condolences to all Gemma’s family on her passing. Gemma was a ground-breaking TD when she was elected in the Wicklow Constituency and a role model for those of us who followed in her footsteps. May she rest in peace now. 🌹

Paul and I thinking of you at this sad time, and offer our deepest sympathy.
Rachel and family, sincere condolences on the death of Gemma. She was a powerhouse of a woman who made a huge contribution to advancing the status of women in this country. In my own case her criticism, in 1979, of the under-representation of women on (and off) air in RTÉ led directly to the creation of the Women Today radio programme, which marked a pivotal point in my career. A small moment in her long and illustrious career, but I am still very grateful. You should be so proud of her, as I know she was of you. She will be much missed by her many friends in IWF.
Sincere condolences to Rachel and all the Hussey family on the passing of your beloved mum. What an immense and lasting legacy she leaves behind. Suaimhneas síoraí dá hanam.
