I was blessed to have had Gemma as my aunt. She was always welcoming to me as a child, and in later years with my three boys. I have such fond memories of summer days on the Sligo Road, and gatherings at Christmas when she would light the Christmas pudding which always amazed me.
She is reunited now with Mom and Dad, and no doubt bringing laughter and craic to them, as she did here.
I will miss her terribly.

Michael, Peter, Brendan, Ruairì, Ciara and the Mongey family. I'm so so sorry for your loss. I too, have great memories like so many others of Gemma's kindness and generosity. Some of my earliest memories growing up on the Sligo Rd were piling into the Nissan and heading up to the town hall to unpack a lorry load of intervention beef. Or coming in from Rosserk after herding cattle of an evening and having a big feed of tea and sandwiches afterwards. I'd love to call over to the lads but there was always work to be done first! It was such a lovely household, run by a loving wife and mother. You will be missed dearly by all who loved you. Sorry I could not be there at this time.

Gemma helped so many people through her work in SVP. This will never be forgotten. I had the pleasure of her company on many a Wednesday morning, when a good laugh and plenty cake were had!!

Words can’t express how lucky I feel to have had you as my Aunt. So many happy memories from my childhood and beyond revolve around Ballina, Sligo Road, my amazing cousins, Uncle, and of course you – the glue that bound everyone and everything together.

A few memories that I will always cherish: you warning us when we were very little not to stand on a fairy near the fairy forth or we’d turn to stone and us tip toeing through long wet grass down the hill in fear – modeling your new jeans to a handful of your disinterested sons, nieces & nephews and asking “well, will I get a man at the disco?” – teasing us that the surprise we’d worked all day for was us getting to go to mass (It was Mary Poppins at the cinema) – sandy picnics with red lemonade and tartan blankets at Enniscrone. So many more.

The last time I saw you in person you filled me with a conveyor belt of sandwiches and tea, I hugged you and Michael as I left and you joked about not wanting to let me go so I couldn’t leave, now it’s me that wants to do that. We had a chance to say goodbye but that doesn’t make this easier, or make any more sense. “Grief is the price we pay for love” as an old saying goes… it’s a heartbreaking privilege we all now share in paying that price.
