Heartfelt condolences to Maeve, and the Mangan family on the sad passing of their beloved Gene, who was an exceptional colleague, and mentor, especially when A.I.F. entered the British market.

My deepest sympathies to Maeve and all the Mangan family, including sister Gill and niece Tara. Gene was a class act in so many ways. His cycling feats are legendary, but in our house we were huge fans beyond the bike as well. He was a wonderful character, and great friend of our Dad especially. Owen always loved meeting him, as we all did. Many's the new car and bike in Oaklawn that arrived with Gene (he was our go-to man for anything with wheels:) He'll be sadly missed by many, most especially his dear family, but he has left a wonderful legacy that will forever be a source of pride, and hopefully some solace at this time. Rest in peace Gene.

So sorry to hear of Genes passing. I worked with him in AIF/AIB where he was always a great colleague. A man of character he had so many anecdotes and stories he could entertain you for hours.

Thank you Gene for all the happy memories, the whimsical stories, the sage advice and lasting encouragement to all the young cyclists of Killorglin. You always brightened our day. We always felt positive after chatting with you and would pass that positivity along. You made the world a better place !

Dear Mangan Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Gene’s passing, however there is no doubt he lived his best life. Gene was loved by all in Kerry but he was also a national treasure. He was a larger-than-life personality who made a lasting impact on everyone who met him, none more so than me. Through Gene’s mentorship, I learned what it truly takes to achieve success in life. His generosity with both his time and guidance was unmatched. Every interaction with him felt like a lesson, and his mentorship was a gift that I will always treasure. His vast collection of stories, particularly from the world of cycling, spanned decades and genres—each one more captivating than the last. As a young boy, I would listen in awe, hanging on to every word when he visited my parents in Killorglin. Gene’s influence is woven into the fabric of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy is one that will endure, and he will be sorely missed.
May Gene rest in peace.
