Condolence to the Canning family on the Passing of George. He was a Gentleman, Great great person. He will be sadly missed. RIP Professor. Willie & Thomas Sherry.
Sincere sympathies Valerie and to the family on George's passing.
Leafing through the messages here about how George touched people's lives so deeply, must be comforting for you to know that his legacy is being felt so widely.
I first met George through my brother Tim, going to his classes in Claude Hall. What struck me was the warmth and care George showed about 'you' as a person. He knew how to extricate from you where life might be troubling you. He had an amazing ability to ask those deep-thinking questions of you that ensured when you left his class, you were continuing to think about what he said in there; how you could change your way of life/way of thinking. As a young person, that was magic. No matter what 'block' you'd put up to the Professor's suggestion, George would look at you directly with those penetrating eyes and ask you another question which of course would negate the block you had just tried to put in place. So many of George's students made such successes of their lives and that's no accident.
Sadly, I didn't feel the circumstances were right in my being able to continue participating but looking through these messages here, I know I missed out on a lot of good teachings.
He had much suffering to deal with in his latter years but took it in his stride like so much of his life. Hope he is at peace now reading these messages, wide-eyed in disbelief that he had such impact on us all!
Rest in peace George. Thank you for such a great legacy.

Deepest sympathy Valerie and Family.
As a relatively younger and more foolish man in 2009 I met the Prof. G
I immediately knew that George was very special and especially unique.
We became friends very quickly.
Listening to the hard and the soft talk - George straightened out so many parts of my life and my business in so many ways I would need many pages to list.
He put me on the road to being a much better person.
The many blessings I have especially my beautiful wife and family George was alway there to help me and instrumental in building my life as it is today - and I thank him dearly.
We miss you prof.
May you rest in peace.

To mrs canning and family our Deepest condolence George was a true gentleman may you rest in peace
I am so sorry to hear of George’s passing. My sincere condolences to the Canning family.
It was my good fortune to have met George many years ago when our daughter Áine was very ill. He repeatedly performed his incredible healing powers on her. His presence alone gave her joy and he eased her suffering on many occasions.
The night Áine passed to eternal life George spent the night with me in her bedroom and I personally witnessed and experienced how George’s healing powers and affection to Áine put her at ease and enabled her to pass away peacefully. George clearly helped others not only in life but also in death. and I will be forever grateful to him.
George “mo chara” now that you too have passed to eternal life may you rest in peace.

Condolences to Valerie, Georgie, David and the extended Canning family. We shared many happy and sometimes testing moments in the Mugendo University at Phibsboro as Professor George pushed me beyond my own restricted and narrow limits. The best trainer I met in any sport and such an exuberant, larger-than-life character. Lessons he taught me in the 80s and 90s are still valuable to me today. A sad loss to his family and his many friends. RIP Professor. You will always have my respect and gratitude.
Rest in Peace Professor Canning, and my deepest condolences to all the Canning family and friends at this sad time.

My condolences to the Canning family on their loss. I've known George since the late '70's. The term legend, is used quite often to describe someone. In George Cannings case, it is an understatement his contribution to martial arts in Ireland was immense. May he rest in peace.
Dear George, I will miss you very much. Time goes by so fast. I have so many fond memories but the greatest ones are when we laughed. My sincere condolences to the Canning family on such a great loss. God bless
I had the great fortune to first meet George over 25 years ago, having become a student in Claude Hall - my one & only regret was that it wasn't long before that !
I spent much time in George's company over the years - and although I had one wonderful Dad already, George became like a second father to me. He was, as has been repeatedly said, a truly inspirational man who devoted himself completely during those years to the betterment of others & through that, he left a hugely positive mark on the very many people he encountered.
In all the many years I have known him, I have heard nothing but glowing tributes for all George did for people - in life & in death. - and they are all richly deserved.
I witnessed & experienced first hand, week after week, the numerous people who came to George for his wonderful training, his incredible healing powers (sometimes the techniques left people shocked & had to be seen to be believed !) and his always sound advice. Everybody left the better and the wiser of their encounters with George.
I will miss our regular chats in more recent times hugely and remember you always with complete fondness and appreciation for all you did for me and for everyone else who had the good fortune to cross your path. In the very best of way's, you truly were one of a kind.
Rest easy my great & unique friend - I am glad the suffering is over - thank you for everything
Tim

My condolences to Georgie and the family at this sad time. Prof George Snr was an unforgettable man and gentleman. I became his student in my early 20s (Claude Hall). Throughout my life he taught me valuable lessons both personally and professionally which I told today. It was always a pleasure to meet up with him from time to time to have a training session in Dorset St. Whilst training, I could talk to him about anything and he gave me guidance! Each time I left his presence I felt great in myself. I will truly miss him from the bottom of my heart! You rest in peace Prof Canning - we soon meet again my friend! xoxoxo
