George was a wonderfully kind and patient teacher, a thorough gentleman and a gifted accompanist. Condolances to his family at this sad time.
George was one of the kindest, most patient, enthusiastic and caring people I have ever met. His kindness and compassion left an indelible mark on me and continues to be an inspiration to me every day. I can't thank George enough for turning on a light in me when I couldn't myself, and for that, I will be forever grateful. Rest in Peace George and thank you.
I have fond memories of counterpoint lessons I had with George some years ago. We would usually end up discussing choral music or some other interesting subject, often for longer than the lesson itself! His enthusiasm and his love of music were always obvious and he was a wonderful teacher.

So very sorry to hear of Georges passing. A true gentleman with a musical brain like no other. His half hour lessons were never a half hour - often an hour or longer. He rarely missed concerts and would always stop for a chat.

Sincerest sympathy James, Laura, Meghan, Kara and all of George’s family and friends on your loss. We first knew of George through Liz, who would tell us tales of his music and travels, and we thought him so exotic, especially when he would spend Christmas in London, the intriguing places he would stay, and all the music he absorbed. Many years later we followed in his footsteps, to London at Christmas, though probably not as fulsomely as George no doubt had done, and we thought of and thanked him for the wonderful idea.
We loved meeting him in Liz’s, or bumping into him in town, always hurrying somewhere for a lesson, but never in too much of rush to stop, and ask how we were, and share that gentle kind smile of his. A wonderful man, and a sad loss, we think of him, and of Liz, with love and deep affection.

George was the first person to teach me about theory of music and, as such, was the primary influence in opening up the world of music to me. George, I recall my time learning from you, your kindness and understanding as I tried to question traditional composition technique. You made it all so simple and accessible. My curiosity and challenge was never a difficulty for you. As so many have said, you were a gent and a wonderful teacher. Thank you for your generosity and kindness. I was lucky to know you and will carry you in my heart. Sincere condolences to George’s family and friends. Eoin Nash.

It is no surprise that so many friends, students and colleagues speak so well of him. George was much-loved and he will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy James and Family on the death of George. As a student of George and neighbour both in the Main Street and Rock Road I feel I have lost someone very influential in my life. As one of his first students he saw my progression in grades in the Piano and theory, Feis Mathew, Inter Cert music and 'Latin for Today'. We enjoyed a good work ethic combined with chats, laughs and friendship up to his departure from Mallow. I will remember George, Liz, your Mam and Dad with great affection. May they Rest in Peace.
Deepest sympathy to James, Laura and all of George's family.

Tribute to George
I was privileged and honoured to know you George. You were my theory teacher a good many moons ago. I so enjoyed my class with you. You inspired me to do my best and under your guidance, I developed excellent skills in a tricky craft such as harmony and counterpoint. In addition your knowledge of music was so diverse, you opened the door for me too to be inquisitive. This musical curiosity has remained throughout my life George and I thank you for sharing this wonderful gift with me.

Some time ago I was delighted to meet you again and we resumed our friendship like old times. It was even better really. We visited each others homes, texted and met out. Hours would became minutes as we would be so engrossed in musical discussion. Your wisdom shone through and I found myself again on a learning curve.

In particular, Pat and I loved you coming to visit our home. You played and dissected those Bach inventions effortlessly. It is your last visit that holds a special memory. We played cards with Pat and had a great laugh. We then played duets together that you brought along.

Thank you again George. I pray you are safe in heaven. Keep onto Bach. Even God will be inspired to listen to your expert analysis. We are saddened you have left us dear friend. Our loss but Heaven's gain. Ita and Pat
I do not forget my old neighbours. George has gone to join Elizabeth and so many friends. We are slipping away one by one. James, you have my deepest sympathy. God bless all.
Sincere sympathy to all the Dunne Family. My early memory of George was typing exam papers set by him for DipCSM. He always handed these in early, checked them thoroughly, making sure the questions were crystal clear for the students.
Later I became a student of George doing Associate Board exams. He honestly made this learning so interesting and easy - it was a joy to study with him, always encouraging and praising me. Of course he facilitated my lessons during my lunch break. We became friendly and met up many times after he retired. What a lovely person. Rest in peace George.
Sincere condolences to the Dunne family on the sad passing of George. Great memories of piano lessons in main street many moons ago and I remember him as a thorough gentleman and a very understanding and patient music teacher . May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Deepest sympathy to the Dunne family and to all who mourn George's passing. I was one of his first piano pupils in Mallow from the age of six and retain the fondest memories of that childhood time. May he rest in peace along with his sister Elizabeth. A highly regarded and respected teacher in CSM and in Mallow.
George epitomised, for me, what being a first-class teacher is. He was kind, gentle, unassuming, learned, considerate of the difficulties that students had, and, caring about all of them, he was loved in equal measure. I suspect that he has already resolved all the dissonances that the Angelic Choir could not cope with!
Sincere sympathy to James, and the extended Dunne family on the sad passing of George. Great memories of him

Sorry to read of Georges death. A lovely man and a great musician.
Deepest sympathies to all George's family on your loss. George was an inspiration to me as a young musician, with his seemingly infinite wisdom, patience and enthusiasm for music, teaching and learning. I could always count on meeting him at a concert and learning something new about the repertoire, the composers and the history.

He retired from CSM shortly after I began studying there, but thanks to his endless generosity I gained hours of insight through regular encounters with him. An incredibly genuine man and an expert teacher. RIP.
RIP George, Gentleman and Musician
Sincere condolences to the Dunne family on the passing of George. I knew George from way back when he lived in Mallow. He is a big loss to the music world but a bigger loss to the human race. A gentleman through and through a kind and pleasant person. We often had tea and scones in O'Briens cafe on MacCurtain St. in Cork. May he rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy to the Dunne family on the passing of George. As a former member of St. Mary’s Choir I have lovely memories of George. So talented and a lovely gentleman with a great sense of fun. May he rest in Peace.
Condolences to George’s brother James and family. May he rest in peace.
I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of George. I first met George at the Cork School of Music when he taught me SATB. Despite my later pursuit of Jazz Harmony, George remained open-minded and curious about my journey. His encouragement and unwavering support were instrumental in helping me achieve my goals. George's kindness and friendship meant the world to me, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

With deepest sympathy,
Tom and Maria Mulcahy.
It is with great sadness that I learned of George’s passing. A wonderful and inspiring colleague in CSM whose enthusiasm and energy for musicianship was truly remarkable right to the end. His interest in his students remained with him regardless of how many years had passed and his recall was most impressive! He will be missed by so many, but his legacy will indeed live on.
May you George rest in eternal peace.
Sincere condolences to the Dunne family. George was a great neighbour, with a generosity of spirit that truly touched all of us who were fortunate enough to have met him. George was a positive force of nature and will be fondly remembered.

The world is a shade less colourful on your passing.

I was privileged to have been taught by George.
He touched so many people’s lives with his expertise, generosity and encouragement.
Rest in peace George.
I wish to offer my sincere condolences to the Dunne family on the passing of the wonderful person that was George. It is a very sad day for the music community - myself included. I knew him through my own music studies many years ago. In my experience, his passion for music theory, musicianship and especially harmony has stayed with me through the years. He spurred me along through mentorship, patience and perseverence as he was dedicated to bringing the best of music from me as a student yet I am only one student with a story. I especially enjoyed his rogueish manner when he spotted some of my own unforgiving intervals that were flying in the face of the rules of harmony. He found so much humour in those situations. His magnificent teaching and enthusiasm for all things music inspired me to become a better performer. I think of him often in my own music journey. He just might now be helping the choirs of angels in the heavens above. May God hold him in the palm of His hand. May George rest in peace.
