I am honored to have called George my friend, and enjoyed getting to know him. I’d like to offer my sincere condolences to his family, especially his brother, Pat, and Pat’s loving wife and their family.

Pat, George, and their family have been a big part of my life, especially during the years I was in high school into my early college years while living in Charlotte, North Carolina in the US.

At one point during those years, I was able to rent a room in George’s home in Charlotte, and so I also get to claim him as my former roommate.

George always had a kind word in the morning when he’d often be in the kitchen as I’d pass through, and no exchange would be complete if he didn’t offer me a cup of tea and some toast.

George liked to work. One topic we shared was we both were “dish pit warriors”, washing dishes at the same local restaurant. It was hot, fast, late work. But it gave George no trouble.

At night, I’d come home and often find George asleep in a chair, still wearing his kitchen uniform after his shift washing dishes.

We had many laughs, and George was often all smiles in conversation.

I’m saddened to learn of his passing, and I find peace knowing he will have eternal rest.
