Sincere condolences to Fiona and family. It was a privilege to work with George over the years. He was a font of knowledge and a charming raconteur. I know he will be missed by all who knew him and had the good fortune to visit Knowth with him.
My deepest, heartfelt sympathy to James and all the Eogan family on the passing of George. A great Irish archaeologist, a gentleman, a scholar and a man with whom the word legend fits easily. Fond memories of Professor Eogan holding court in theater L in UCD lecturing us the wonders of Etruscan archaeology, the world of Kathleen Kenyon and the Tel of Jericho in the late 1980s. I will alway remembered George with the highest respect and regard, a very good man and a great scholar RIP.
Sincere sympathy tio the Eogan family, Thank you for sharing George with all of us in the Irish Hellenic Society, We had some wonderful & memorable times in his company. George was so generous with his time and in sharing his vast knowledge. Our. outings to Meath in particular and to Knowth.

I was saddened to hear of George's death. I knew him during his period in Seanad Éireann and his contributions were always both measured and insightful. He was obviously a man of great learning but it was learning he carried lightly. He was an amiable and entertaining colleague. My condolences to his family.

I was lucky to have got to know George when I was a childhood friend of James and the family. I remember well him bringing us on a school trip and allowing us to explore the passage tombs which was very exciting even if we probably didn't understand the enormous significance of his achievements as an archeologist which was something I realised when I was older. To all the family - please accept my sincere condolences and those of the Clinch family.

My condolences to you Fiona and all of your family on your loss of George. So many good memories of your summer days here in the Boyne valley. Our overseas visitors to Knowth were awe-inspired by George's enormous generosity in their discussions with him of his great magnum opus.
I was so lucky as another academic archaeologist to have known and worked with George for many years. Without him I doubt that the Discovery Programme would ever have been founded.
He was such a gentleman, and will be one of the'Greats' in the long history of Irish archaeology.

I was so sorry to learn of George's death and extend my sincere sympathies to you all on his passing. George was a thorough gentleman and it was a pleasure to serve with him in Seanad Éireann from 1987-1989. He was also of course a renowned archaeologist and I will be forever grateful to him for giving me a personal tour of Knowth passage grave some years ago.. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
