George and Rose opened their home, Bankyle House, to me many times when I traveled from Boston, MA. I will always remember George's love of cooking and he was an excellent chef. I remember a Christmas goose he served once. I had never had such a delicious bird. He knew fine wines and was always willing to open a bottle for friends. He was so proud of his garden. I loved sitting at the kitchen table, with a fire in the hearth, listening to George's amusing stories. But George was a learned man and he could debate serious issues with the best. George adored Rose and would do anything for her. George will be missed by many. I will keep all my memories of George Macnamara fondly.

We knew George when he was our supplier of fresh vegetables and apples and kindness and good humour at the Country Market beside the Friary in Ennis. A wonderful man to get to know.
