So sorry to hear of George's passing. I have fond memories of his insistence on correct names' spelling and on dotting the 'i's and crossing the 't's during, among other times, his bridge column writing for The Times.

sincerest sympathy to the Ryan family and Aine. I met George at the 4 Fun bridge in 2014. He was so encouraging. We were lying 68/86 and George came up to us all the time "you can do better" until we ended up second. What a beautiful man. I admired him greatly and loved Aine's lovely articles in the Irish Times.

Thinking of you Áine and all your family at this very sad time. Your Dad was very well loved and respected.
With sincere sympathy to George’s family at this sad time of the passing pf George, a name we in the Bridge world knew well. We knew him in person too as he would appear at Bridge events to find the exact detail for his Irish Times column and then we would wait to read what he had to say on a Monday. He never disappointed, he was polite and friendly, a great story teller with many tales to tell. We have missed him for a long time; he looked after us well. With sympathy to his loving family. George, Rest in Peace.

Deepest sympathy. I have many fond memories of good times with George in the '70's and '80's. A talented teacher he de-mystified bridge for the confused and bewildered beginner through the length and breadth of Ireland through his very widely read books, The Bones of Bridge and Some of the Flesh. HIs contribution to the enjoyment of the game by so many generations of players cannot be overstated. Rest in Peace George.

Deepest sympathy to the Ryan family .
To Áine, Breda, Clare and Eithne and son Gearóid and Sr. Clare Ryan, my deepest sympathies. I learned Bridge from George's famous 'Bones of Bridge' and 40 years later I would still recommend this little pocket book - I still have my copy. Over the years I was honoured to get to meet and get to know and call George my friend. It is worth re-saying that Irish Bridge owes you a great debt of gratitude George.
I wish to extend to each one of you my deepest sympathy on the passing of your dear Father It is indeed the end of an era. I am so thankful for the cherished memories.
