One of George's favourite sayings I remember was "Fair Comment" when needed in defusing a situation.

Deeply saddened to learn of the death of George. He was a committed Trade Unionist and a ‘real’ Labour man who worked earnestly and steadfastly throughout his life for a better deal for all working people. Sincere condolences to Carmel and all the family.

The Bray and District Council of Trade Unions wish to extend our deepest sympathy to George’s wife Carmel, his sons David, Raymond and Ciarán, his grandchildren, brother and sisters and extended family on his death.

George was involved with the Trades Council since 1988 when he joined as a delegate from the ITGWU (now SIPTU). He held different positions on the council, including that of treasurer, vice-president and trustee. He was elected President of the Council in 2015, a position to which he was unanimously elected on each of the following four years.

George was a gentleman who was highly respected by his colleagues for the huge expertise and skills, developed over his years as an official with the ITGWU / SIPTU, which he brought to both the Council and the Bray Centre for the Unemployed, where he was chair of the Management Committee.

He will be sadly missed.
