Christine and family I was so sorry to hear of the passing of dear George, he was a fine gentleman and it was always a pleasure to be in his company, he was so entertaining. May dear George rest in peace.
only got to hear tragic news in last few days. George was a friend to all & esp me whether he was aware of it or not. A man of self-contained integrity where it was /is sorely needed. Self belief but simplicity his hallmarks as he cheerfully dealt with all who approached him without any distinction or self importance.
Our sorry world, nation , and town can ill afford the loss of such as he.
Goodbye old colleague the world is now poorer.
We will remember George with great affection ... may he rest in peace

Dear Christine, Deepest sympathy to you and your family on your devastating loss. May George rest in peace.
Christine it was so good to talk to you. You and your family shattered as George's sudden death overwhelms you all and indeed I find it quite hard to take it all in.
My heartfelt love to you all in this time and unfortunately i cannot be there to support you all. Before Ardgroom, before Hollymount, before Bolton Street, there was CIE, where George and I formed the bond of friendship beginning on 01-09-1961 as we embarked on our electrical apprenticeships together.. It was then that our lives began to unfold as we were joined by Dave, Paddy and Peter also CIE electrical apprentices in our social lives. A special group of friends that held together all those years as we then went off in different directions but never lost from each other.
Going home now will never be the same again, I miss him like oxygen.
My love to you all
Phil

Thinking of you Rach, Christine, Robin. George was one of a kind. So lucky to know him. So sad he left so suddenly.
My deepest sympathy to all of George’s family on the passing of an amazing human being. I met George in 1992 as a student of electronics in the RTC. He was always so positive and witty. He would always give personal attention to any student who needed help. On one occasion, he saved my project, whilst teaching me a few new partial tricks in electronics.

Every student who has gone through electronics, would have at some stage, owed George a debt of gratitude for his help and guidance. He was an absolute gentleman who shared his knowledge freely. He would always crack a joke at the perfect time when your day needed a lift. To this everyone in the college will testify, staff and student alike.

Later I had the privilege of being George’s colleague from 1999 until his retirement. He continued to support and help all those around him, both personally and professionally across all departments in the college, not just engineering. It would just brighten your day to meet George! Every encounter, you would walk a from with a smile on your face. He was a positive influence in the college and I will always have very fond memories of George and the treasure of character he possessed.
RIP George.
