Gerald (Gerry) O'Shea

Comhbhrón o chroí le Aileen, Siobhan, Ursula, Brenda and all of the grand-children on the loss of Gerald. Gerald had a strong presence in our lives growing up in Kenmare and was a welcome and regular visitor for many years. He opened his home in Yonkers to our family during a holiday Stateside and his BBQs were something to behold. I was privileged to have attended his obsequies in NY and observe at first hand the regard he was held in by all. Leaba i measc na naomh aige.

Comhbhrón ó chroí to Aileen, Siobhán, Brenda, Ursula , and to Gerry's grandchildren, his sister Margaret, brother Michael, inlaws and the wider family and friends. Gerry was imbued with strong and clear values of solidarity with the underprivileged, of love and connection with people and philanthropic work for the betterment of society, values he inherited from his Irish Christian upbringing. I'm sure all the many acts of goodness, generosity, and kindness will ensure his eternal peaceful rest and happiness 'i measc na nGael agus na ngaol sna flaithis'. I feel privileged and edified to have known him as a cousin but also as a fellow Gael through Irish cultural connections since 2001. I received such a warm welcome with my children at his home in Yonkers just last December, and we will cherish the memory of that time with Gerry, Aileen, and Shay. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you all in the difficult times ahead. It was a moment of great sadness when I heard of the passing of Gerry O'Shea of New York and Kenmare. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to his family, extended family, officers and members of New York's Kerry Association on this very sad occasion.
I first met Gerry when I delivered a Kerry slide show and talk, with a Listowel slant, at the Kerrymans Hall in Yonkers N.Y. IN 2007. The friendship forged then, never waned, and Gerry was always delighted to welcome me back, when, on two occasions I had various book launches, which he, as Chairman and fellow Kerryman was proud to host. The word great is sometimes misappropriated, however in the late Gerrys case, he was a great and probably irreplaceable person at the Kerry Association.
I always welcomed Gerry's most insightful blog and will miss his musings over the many topics which he wrote about in precise detail.
Gerry, the worlds loss is Heaven's' gain, rest well, my friend.
