We were very sorry to hear of Gers passing RlP.
He was a really gentle soul and we always loved meeting him through birding with the Tolka branch. We are thinking of you John as well as Gers family at this sad and difficult time.

To dear Gerald’s partner, John, and his brother, Stephen, and his sister, Marian, and extended family, my deepest sympathy on hearing of Gerald’s death today. I knew Gerald in Dublin in the 1970s and 1980s when he lived in Warrington Place. What a lovely, kind, gentle and shy man he was with the most beautiful smile which lit up his face. He was always great with steady advice to me at the time and had a great sense of humour. My deepest regret is that I lost touch with him when I moved home but I have never forgotten him and he has often been in my thoughts. He impressed me hugely as a wonderful human being. He will be much missed. Hopefully many happy memories will be of some comfort to you all. Rest in peace dear Gerald. You are tending the gardens of heaven now.

My hearfelt condolences John. I'm so glad I kept in touch but not enough. I would always send him an unidentified bird I found on Twitter. Within minutes he would identify it for me. He was extremely knowledgeabe. In all the times we played tennis in the eigties he beat the pants off me every time. A beautiful soul. RIP.
