Geraldine (Ger) Tanham

I met Ger in Howth and we became great friends. It was through Ger and Linda that I met my wife Janis. We enjoyed great times together. Our friendship lasted even though we lived poles apart.

Ger will be sadly missed.

I grew up with Ger in Abbeyfiled, she was a wonderful friend and confidant. She was two years ahead of me at school, a top student and prize winning Irish dancer.

We had great times as teenagers and young women socialising at the weekend and having fun. She came with Linda to Australia for my son Robert's wedding and we had a fantastic time. I loved visiting Abbeyfield and although we lived at opposite sides of the world we had a strong lifelong friendship.

Memories of Ger will stay with me forever

I moved to Cork when I got married, but was always delighted to meet up with Ger on my Dublin visits. In recent years we had girls holidays in Nerja, and trips to various musicals, which were always great fun. She was a wonderful story teller and would have us all in fits laughing! I first met Ger when she was about 18 in Mary’s house and she and Mary were mimicking accents and had me and Mary’s mother in stitches! I also spent weekends in Clifden where the fun continued. I knew Ger for over 30 years. Very loving of her extended Abbeyfield family. A strong friend to many,some most of her life. Really easy going aka laid back at home. Astute and very witty when out and about. Her work stories were a treat. She knew the SW system inside out. Still following the Dubs to the end. A neighbour among great neighbours. A genuine member of any community or support group in which she participated. And a talented dancer from an early age. The one to ring with the music quiz questions. Ger will genuinely be missed by many from a variety of walks of life. Special condolences to Linda and Aileen who were really there for her in all her hours of need.
