Dear Ken, Karen, John and Orla, you are in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve and mourn the loss of your beloved Dad. Gerard was a man of faith who lived life to the full, with a deep and warm love for and pride in you, his children, and for his adored grandchildren. He exuded kindness, warmth, charm and put people at ease with the warmth of his smile and his easy-going manner. I cherish special memories of a hospitable and welcoming host, a lively storyteller, raconteur - a man who loved to 'hop a ball' and get a lively response. What rousing, memorable and enjoyable sing songs we had down the years. I like to think that his beloved Marian, the light of his life, together with Liam, Peig, Niall and Marie were at 'The Gates' to welcome him in to the love, joy and peace of his eternal home. Gerard, thank you for being you. Ta leaba tuillte agat i lathair De agus i measc na naomh.

When I used to meet your Dad mainly in Tralee or now and again in Milltown while he did his deliveries, we would say Hello and have a few words together.

We knew each other through Niall and a natural fondness was present.

The two brothers suffering and dying in the same year must be tough for you all to experience.
