I was so sorry to learn of the passing of Gerry who did such good work in our community and with whom I had much contact over the years. I offer my deepest sympathy to Tricia, Sharon, Lorraine, Derek, Patrick and all the family on your sad loss and assure you of my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. May Gerry rest in peace.

Dear Uncle Gerard,

You have left us all too soon. I am sorry I didn't get to meet you over the past few years, I have lived in England for far too long and I missed a chance to speak with you over the past years. I am sad today. Your passing reminds me that life is all too short and we should all see each other more often. You leave behind a large and loving family, children, grandchildren and wider family, and that is the greatest thing a man can have in this life. If there is a heaven, you will be with my dad (your brother), your mother and father (my granny and grandad), and all those who have gone before. As the poem says:

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
