Treasured memories of childhood years in Barretts, heartbroken to hear of Gerrys sudden passing. Truly a talented, gifted man, full of whit and good humour. He was a dear family friend and neighbour and his many visits to our house were always welcomed. A few weeks ago I was out for a walk and called in and he was delighted to give me apples he had grown. Always giving and sharing. He will be missed terribly from the village. Another one of Knockmore’s favourite son’s has gone to meet his maker. So sorry to hear of the passing of Gerry Barrett. One of Knockmore’s great corner backs. He wore the saffron and blue with great pride and with great distinction.
When Knockmore football is talked about, let it be near or far Gerry Barrett’s name will always get a mention.
I’m sure when the Pearly Gates swing open to welcome Gerry, all the Knockmore legends of yesterday will be there to welcome him in.
