I was so sorry to hear that Mr. Coogan has passed away. He was a brilliant maths teacher and very much respected by all of his students. My condolences to Mrs. Coogan and his family.
My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr Coogan. Not only a great teacher, but a very whitty and lovely man. Will be remembered fondly. Rest in Peace (Class of 2006)
My deepest sympathy to all the family on the death of Mr Coogan RIP. He was indeed a wonderful teacher. His wit and wisdom were legendary and his sense of humour is well remembered almost 50 years later. He was our history teacher and l have thought of him so often in this "decade of centenaries". He gave us an invaluable insight into the making of our modern world but with many a laugh as well.
Thank you Mr Coogan.
More important than the love of maths and learning he inspired are the lifelong friendships forged in the five years that “Mr Coogan” was our Form teacher. We remember him fondly. He will be missed. My sincerest condolences to his family of whom he spoke with pride and love. May he rest in peace.
Dear Maebh and family . Sincere sympathies on the passing of Gerry . I spent one year in the 90s teaching in Presentation Terenure . Gerry was always such a gentleman so kind , knowledgeable, generous and inspiring . May he Rest In Peace. Margaret
Sincere condolences to all the Coogan family on the loss of Gerry. May he rest in peace.
Mr. Coogan was our English teacher for 2nd and 3rd year from 1972 to 1974.
What I remember most is how he encouraged us all to read. He even brought in his own books for us to take home. We then had to write a book report on each book. I was chuffed once when he chose to read my book report aloud to the class.
Among his books I remember To Sir with Love and Of Mice and Men. To Kill a Mocking Bird may have been another. Eight of us school friends are still regularly in touch and we are all avid readers to this day.
Thanks for your inspiration sir.
Gerry, bravely took on the challenge of teaching the first Honours Maths class for the 1976 Leaving Cert at Presentation, Terenure. I was privileged to have been one of those lucky girls; no fails and 10 out of 12 of us got honours. He was a brilliant teacher, sharp wit, took no prisoners, but we all had huge respect and affection for him. Great man who has left a great legacy. Thank you Gerry. Deepest sympathy to his family and close friends.
Sincere condolences to all of Mr Coogans family and friends. He really was the best teacher. May he rest in peace.

I still remember Mr Coogan all these years later as being a standout excellent teacher. He was so encouraging and strongly fostered my love of maths. We all knew to have our top buttons fastened, tie properly in place and to be in class on time! I had such a huge amount of respect for him and remember him fondly. He was one of the good guys!
I’m so sad to hear the news. I will always remember him. I believe that only once in a lifetime we get to meet a teacher like Mr Coogan who inspired us. He truly believed in us and we all adored him for it. He guided us and supported us he was unique.
So saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Coogan. We all loved him (secretly of course!)
I still talk about him to this day - amazing teacher and so respected by pupils and teachers alike.

I still talk about how great a teacher he was to this day when people talk maths or figures, as he was the one who got it to click. He was also one of the teachers who made an impact on me and left a mark were i remember and appreciate everything he did for me and i highly respected him, he was a teacher who understood his students, he was fair, funny and very kind and he encouraged me and got me to do my best. My condolences to the family of Mr. Coogan. I think of his skilled teaching very often, so much of what he thought has stayed with me. May he rest in peace.
So sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Gerry. Our heartfelt condolences to Meabh Aisling and Sinead and all your extended family. May he rest in peace.
A tough loss.

Gerry was always a promimant figure and big voice at christmas and gatherings. An uncle that was there, as all of us little ones were running around the grandparents garden. His deep voice when it came to the party piece and the sing songs that we would have at christmas gatherings. Gerry was a prominant part of my gorwing up though at that age i was a little unsure at times of his dry humor, but his dry humor made him fit right in with the rest of the crazy ones in this family.

you will be deeply missed. rest in piece.

Ruairi, Deborah, Orla
Sincere sympathy to Meabh, Sinead and Aisling on the passing of Gerry. He was resolutely committed to his students and will continue to enjoy legendary status in our memories. Sorry for your loss.
My deepest condolences to the family. I did my leaving cert in Pres in 1989 and had Mr. Coogan for Maths from 1st year. My children know Mr. Coogans name as to this day more than 30 years later I still talk about how lucky I was to have the best Maths teacher in Ireland. He gave me a love of Maths that I didn’t know existed until 1st year. He pushed me to be my very best and encouraged and kept at me…he knew I had an ability for Maths that I didn’t know I had myself. I will never be able to verbalise my thanks to a wonderful man and gifted teacher. I count myself very lucky to have been his student for 5 years. 💜 rip Mr. Coogan
Dear Maedbh, I am so sorry to hear of your sudden loss. Gerry was a great friend and support during my years in Presentation. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolence to Joe, Mary and extended Coogan family on the sad passing of your brother Gerry. May he rest in peace.
Our heartfelt condolences to Méabh, Sinéad, Aisling, extended family and friends, and all past colleagues and pupils of Presentation Terenure on the death of Gerry Coogan. We, as a family, will always remember Mr. Coogan with sincere gratitude and affection. The Heavey family; Anne, Paddy, Suzanne, Jessica and Rachel.

Mr. Coogan, as is evident in all these moving tributes, always enjoyed genuinely legendary status in Pres, and like in many other homes, was an absolutely iconic character in our family life growing-up. The memory of his presence links all past Pres pupils, and his dedication to his students and unwavering belief in the essential importance of education of girls and women did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. It is striking how infrequently we bump into important figures from our youth on this small island of ours - yet, whenever any one of us, or anyone in our orbit, ever did, the telling of the chance encounter was always shared with giddy excitement and buoyance in abundance. One half of The Coogans, Mr. Coogan was formidable, hilarious, and generous, and contributed uniquely to joy-filled, endlessly special, precious years of our young lives - for which we are forever grateful. Mrs. Coogan; we are so grateful for your encouragement of our love of music, which continues to reverberate meaningfully throughout our lives. We are so deeply sorry for your loss.

Thank you for everything, Sir.

Suzanne (2001), Jessica (2004), Rachel (2009).
