Dear John, Aileen, Kenny, Mary, Bríd, Eithne, Clíodhna, Roísín and extended families, please accept our sincere sympathy on the passing of your dear dad and grandfather Gerry. Always the gentleman from my days in Colaiste Iascaigh and the VEC. No doubt, listening to his sweet and melodic music playing will bring wonderful memories of good times shared. A former student of Mr Donagher at VEC Easkey. Have fond memories of him as a teacher and Principal teacher. Wonderful teacher. He encouraged the best of everything out of his pupils. Regardless of the student's status, he treated everybody as equals. Interacted with students and treated everybody with fairness and respect. Liked to hear what all his students did in their spare time and encouraged them to have some home projects such as gardening, vegetable growing flower planting. During summer holidays he visited students to check their projects and awarded prizes for good projects.
He liked to know how people got on after their final year and leaving college. Many years later I had some contact with Mr Donagher and we exchanged letters etc. I went to visit him and admired his lovely re-wilded garden. Plants flowers and shrubs of great beauty. He was more advanced than the Green Party with his knowledge of climate change and global warming.
His love of music, culture, and literature was super. He produced a book called "From Slate to Mouse" I have a copy of this book and it brings back many happy memories of school days.
Easkey will miss you Sir and you leave a great legacy. Your departure is like a library being burned down. You can now meet your lovely wife Bridie and play music with the Angels. May you rest in peace.
