To all the Noone family, so sorry to learn of Gerry's death. I have fond memories of Stephen's Day walks in Glendalough with all the walking group- Daddy was so fond of Gerry and enjoyed the comradary and the craic of the walking and the forthnightly cards. A true gentleman. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time. A lovely gentle man who it was always a pleasure to meet. Xx
What does it say about a person when the mere mention of their name invariably elicits a warm smile followed by a tall tale? Having only met Gerry once or twice in person, that was my experience. He was simply remarkable! It’s no coincidence that he should pass on the same date as Frances, no doubt she was there to lead him home. Our deepest condolences to all who loved him, and may he Rest In Peace! ????

Sincere sympathies to all the family - this poem by Rainer Maria Rilke makes me think of Gerard

A Walk
My eyes already touch the sunny hill.
going far beyond the road I have begun,
So we are grasped by what we cannot grasp;
it has an inner light, even from a distance-

and changes us, even if we do not reach it,
into something else, which, hardly sensing it,
we already are; a gesture waves us on
answering our own wave…
but what we feel is the wind in our faces.
Madeleine, Aiseling, Brian, Eimear, Tara, Malachy, Fergus & Yvonne sorry we couldn't attend today's funeral but it was great to be able to watch on the Arklow parish webcam with Mum & Dad this morning & it gave us the opportunity to participate & to wish farewell to Gerard - he touched all our hearts & we have lovely memories of time spent with him - he was always a pleasure to be with, we will all miss him dearly - he will be in our heart forever.

Good bye and God bless you, Gerard; more than an uncle, you were often a father figure for me. I will forever hold in my heart our long walks together, sometimes quiet and contemplative, sometimes full of talk and banter, often challenging mentally and physically. I will miss you, great man, you wise and compassionate soul. I will miss your humour, your independent spirit, and your love of the great outdoors. I regret that I didn’t get as much time with you as I would have enjoyed in the last few years; but I am very grateful to have had that last long afternoon with you a couple of years ago in Arklow. Our conversation was as ever completely provocative and inspiring. That time with you was a balm to my soul and I will always treasure it.

My thoughts are with all those who loved and cared for you: Madeleine, Aiseling, Brian, Eimear, Tara, Malachy, Fergus, Yvonne, all the grandchildren, and Marie and Liam and Doreen too. And so many more. I pray that your fond memories and Gerard’s peaceful passing will help you in your grief and in your journey towards healing.
