Sincere sympathy to Marian, Rory, Barry, Geróid, his mother Catherine and the extended Griffin and Holland families on the sad and untimely passing of Gerard. May he rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to the many who so clearly cherished and loved Gerard but foremost of course to his wife Marian and to his sons Rory, Barry and Gearóid; to his mother Catherine, the beloved Mrs Griffin, Ist citizen of Tarbert, and to his siblings Breda, Pat, Noel, Teddy, Anne and Patricia. I didn’t know Gerard, being much older, which order underscores how inequitable is his going. Clearly, Gerard inherited the qualities and affability of his sterling parents Catherine and the late Paddy, as is evident in the wonderful tributes issuing from friends, colleagues, neighbours and fellow sportspersons, further underscoring his loss to family and society. I shall ever remain mindful of the easy, spontaneous welcome I always experienced on revisiting my birthplace on the annual occasion of Tarbert’s Cuckoo Walking Festival, notably from his siblings Teddy and Patricia. I feel the loss that it never was my good fortune to have encountered Gerard there. I had the pleasure of working with Gerry at Intact. There was never a day I spent with him, where he did not have me laughing uncontrollably with his stories!
His loss will be felt greatly by all that had the pleasure of meeting him, he really was one of a kind and a true gentlemen.

Gerry, Thank you for the trips to Black Rock, the food at the Jockeys and your knowledge! Rest in Peace; you will me missed!
