As we go through life, we bring joy to some through our good deeds. That journey was done with considerable charm and humour in Gerdie's case. He now joins his brother Michael, whose life was cut short in the prime of his youth.

My personal memory of Gerdie will be of his great humour. When I told him that I was planning a trip to East Africa, he gave me some advice about South Africa, should I extend my trip to that country:-
"Sterling cash, false qualifications, and plenty of neck!" is what I would need, he said ...

That is my favourite story about him, and it never fails to raise a hearty laugh from my brothers, Gearoid and Mark, who both left Barryroe some years ago, but remember him well.

They join me in sending our condolences to the Holland family at this sad time, and also remember his brother Michael and their late parents.

My sincere sympathies to Eileen, Ciara, Gráinne, Gearóid and extended families on the sad passing of Gerdie. He was a good friend to my late father and they enjoyed meeting at the Post Office in Lislevane or at the creamery. My father even purchased a tractor and a jeep from him. He always had a funny tale to tell, even when closing a deal.
I have many great memories of being in Gerdie's company at Wheltons in Lislevane. He was a "larger than life" character with the most positive, infectious attitude to living. Conversations would be full of mischief, roguery and craic and he was completely at ease around people. He was a great card player, could hold a great note and was a complete shark while playing pool.
He will be greatly missed by many.

Gerry was a wonderful jovial kind man whose company was always lively and truly enjoyable. I first met him at Brinny where we worked together and continued the friendship through mutual family events and relationships. My Mum (Peggy Murphy Lislee) was good friends with Lena and Gerry was so good to me during Jer Deasy's funeral arrangements. I called to see him a few times a year and he always took time out to chat whenever we met. I will miss that now.
