I missed Gerard’s funeral details but he has been in our minds and hearts everyday. I had the privilege of coaching him (LDFC) when he came up to play with the older team. He stood out to me from day 1, not only his strong sporting abilities but more-so, his grounded strength of character. I mean that genuinely. My son equally admired the character he was and they became friends. I am gutted for your loss. May he rest in peace.

Dear Carmel, Pat, Brid and all your family. It was with the deepest sadness and sorrow that we learnt of the death of Gerard. There are no words of condolence that can even start to ease the pain you will all feel. Gerard's life was too short yet he had enormous impact. Carmel and Pat, your eyes lit up with pride and joy when you spoke of your fine son patrolling out in Syria looking out for others. Your stories about Gerard coming home and looking forward to milking the cows were heartfelt and so beautifully grounded. Gerard chose a life of service and brought honour to his family, to Ogonnelloe and to Ireland. He wanted to serve in the army and his wishes came true. It is obvious that his integrity and strength of character touched so many including those who served alongside him. Gerard cannot be replaced but will always be remembered with love and respect. Our sincere condolences.
