We are so sorry to hear of Gerard’s untimely passing. Gerard was an absolute gentleman, a wonderful neighbour, a genuine friend and a professional to work with in CIT/MTU.
Gerard’s love and passion of Cork GAA was legendary and he loved to discuss all matches, having travelling with his family who he always spoke so affectionately about.

I will always be grateful to Ger for his generosity to me when I started as a lecturer, ready with encouragement, advice, or a chat about his adventures that weekend with his beloved GAA. Whenever we bumped into each other after his retirement, it was clear he was loving his new life, doing things he wanted to do with the people he loved. May he rest in peace.

Ah Gerard you left us too early. A talented and highly valued member of the CIT maths team for many years, a congenial and considerate colleague, great conversationalist and a mine of information on matters sporting and way beyond, Gerard’s shy smile belied a steely determination to do things his way. And he did, when a favourable early retirement scheme opened up he took his leave to pursue his wider interests on his own terms. So pleased now that he got his own way and had that time to himself.

Sincere condolences to Kevin and his family and to Gerard’s wider family. Family was so important to Gerard, he had taken special leave to care for his late mother, he was very proud of Laura & Denis. On one of our more recent chance encounters he informed us that he was on his way to purchase a baby present for his newly arrived grandniece, Ivy. He was so pleased with his promotion to granduncle. I’m not sure if he took Christine’s advice or what he bought in the end, maybe a season ticket?

Gerard, you will be missed by all, not least by your former CIT colleagues, serving MTU staff and especially those of us who walk the ‘TOWN. Rest in Peace, I suppose a final trip to Thurles on Wednesday is a few yards too far.
