Gerard Ryan

I was saddened to learn of Gerry's death last Friday week.I first met Gerry many years ago through a mutual good friend,the inimitable Seanie Ryan.We met on numerous happy social occasions since then.One of the happiest that comes to mind was a day at the races in Leopardstown with Gerry,Seanie and myself- the craic was continuous all day: checking the form ( lucky for me I relied on Gerry andSeanie's insights into the world of horses!) placing the bet,and dashing into the tent for a quick pint before the race began.Needless to say we didnt take the bookies to the proverbial cleaners but we had enough to retire to Keogh's pub in the evening and shoot the breeze 'til the wee hours.I was in wonderful company all day!!........I have no doubt that Gerry is in a more secure space now with family and friends who have gone before him.Ar dheis De go raibh do anam dilis,Gerry!
