Gerry Gallagher

I stumbled across this very sad news just today, and felt compelled to say how sorry I am. I knew Gerry (then always known as Gagsy/Gags!) at St Michaels in Leeds - a bit of a rascal but always good fun and with a huge heart. We then reestablished contact when I met his niece on the Creative Writing course at UEA. I stayed with Gerry and Erika a couple of times in the 2000s, the second time with my own wife and child. They were as hospitable as only the Irish can be! I have especially fond memories of a long, soul-baring country walk, and a couple of Leeds games which Gerry produced mysterious season tickets for! I would have loved to get together again in our old age but sadly that's not to be. Condolences and love, Andy

Dear Erika and children and Paul I am so sorry to hear of Ged's death, the news of which I received from Paul. I wish to offer my sincere condolences. My memories of Ged go back to when he was a young boy and I was a student in Leeds where I spent many happy hours in the Gallagher household. I was Nick's best man and I continued to see Josephine after Nick's death. Prior to Nick's death whenever i visited the Marr's I always had a drink with Ged's Dad Dan while he was alive.
I was fortunate to feel part of the Gallagher family and in later years was at both Happy and Sad occasions with Ged and now I mourn with you his passing Love to All Eric

I had the pleasure of having known and lived with Gerald and his family during my student days in Leeds
We grew up during our adolescence years from his 13 year old to 17 .and i have many fond memories of him and was like a brother growing up together.
May the lord receive him with open arms .

Gerry "Ged" Gallagher was truly a fundamental asset to the Leeds United Football Academy at the Thorp Arch Academy Training Complex.

Very sorry to hear of Gerry's all too premature passing. I knew Gerry from early Leeds - St Michael's College - days. A shared love of Leeds United and music, and great memories of me and Gerry acting as roadies for the band formed by our other SMC friends, Brendan Gore and Gerry McLaughlin (the band was actually named after Gerry's nickname at the time - Gags). Also remember a couple of hot summer visits to Achill in the early 70s, where we'd prevail upon Gerry to find us a floor to sleep on. Rest in peace, Gerry, and much love to the family. Paul

I didn't know him to speak with but he always had a wave when you would pass the gate of his beautiful garden and would regularly see him out collecting rubbish from the roads and in Newport for the betterment of the community.
