Gerry Kiernan

Dear Mrs Kiernan, Kate and the wider Kiernan family. I was very sad to hear of Mr Kiernan's passing. He was our teacher and year head in the earliest days of HFCS (LC Class of '87!) and he was always very kind and patient. I met him some years later at a reunion and he told me with great sadness about your little boy Keith. I'm very sorry for your two great losses and wish you strength as you grieve again.

Mr Kiernan was my Year Head and teacher from 1987 until 1992. During that time he was incredibly supportive and encouraging to me and my fellow students. He always had time for us and our problems no matter how big or small and for that I thank him.
May you rest in eternal peace Mr Kiernan, so very well deserved after putting up with all us kids in HFCS

I had the privilege of meeting you all again with Keith and was amazed by your strength and dignity at such a difficult time. I got to know Liz and Gerry through the set dancing where we shared the car journey to many a Saturday night ceile...that journey always seemed shorter with Gerry's stories and knowledge. Whether we were at a Monday night class or a ceile he was always eager to help out a beginner. For you Liz the Plain set will never be the same as you both danced it so perfectly together. My heartfelt condolences to Gerry's family and friends on his passing. He was my yearhead and maths teacher many years ago and i have often thought about the lasting impact he had on all of us that graduated from HFCS in the class of 2002. He always had so much time for every student, a very patient and kind man. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Am so very sorry to hear of Gerry’s passing. He was such a champion of mine all through my school years, even when I was a ‘loveable rogue’ as he once called me. Gerry was someone whose support and guidance stayed with me my whole life. He gave me so many life lessons and always believed in me and was a very strong guiding influence in my early years. He gave me great belief and strength in myself and has left such a strong impact on so many lives that won’t die with him. He will be remembered by so many for many years to come. My sympathy to all those dear to him. He was a very special person.

So sorry to hear of his passing. As a HFCS student around the time his little son Keith passed, I can only hope there’s comfort for the family knowing they are together again. Such a great teacher who also kept many in line with some famous phrases as ex-HFCS students will know from the late 90s-early 2000’s. He took a deep interest in his students, education was a big passion, and wanted to elevate us to the best we could be in our teenage years and into adulthood. Very valued and never forgotten. RIP
