I am sad to hear of Gerry's death.i grew up in Catherine St. - one of 17 children. I met Gerry in St.
Michael's and later in Sexton St. We did a project together on the O'Briens of Thomond. I remember meeting Gerry on a boat in Corbally when he had moved into the "hippy" phase I left Limerick in 1970. Last year I met with Donal Casey and Peter Anslow from Cecil St. We also met Ger Lawlor - Catherine St. This was after more than 50 years of not meeting. We did a walking tour of our Home Ground - Limerick City Centre! What a pleasure that on our walk we met Gerry! Life has its own twists and turns. We all live our own lives to the full - each of us in our own very special and individual way. Gerry did just that! I'm glad I shared part of that journey with him. I had my own journey too. Life continues in its own good way! Thank you Gerry for all we shared! I wish you and your family Peace. Brendan O'Brien. 59 Catherine Street. Linerick

My sincere condolences. Heartbreaking news such a good friend and unique character has passed. I remember Gerry as a young man dressed in a top hat and tails 40 years ago in my mother’s sitting room in Assumpta Park, laughing next to the fireplace. He was to be Paddy Prendergast’s best man who my sister Myra was to marry. I was a kid at the time. I last met Gerry in Mickey Martins a few months back when I got him a double Irish whiskey. I’m delighted I did. Also took a quick spin on his wheel chair which he got a great laugh from. Bye Gerry. Your buddy, Johnny Johnson
