It was with sadness that we heard of Gerry’s death RIP.
Our sincere condolences to Mary, son Gerry and all the family. We both have fond memories of Gerry from his time in Mount Pleasant. He was a true gentleman,warm,welcoming and very friendly to all he met. He had a wonderful sense of humour. We have always held him in the highest regard and it was a pleasure to have known him.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Gerry when I was on the UCD Bar Committee and then working in the Student's Union. He was such a part of UCD for so long. All the students knew him and he was always there to tell you a joke or a story when you dropped into his office, where the photo of him and Pele sat proudly behind his desk. Gerry could regale you with all sorts of stories from football to politics and more and always with a bit of divilment thrown in. He always brought a room to life. I always remember Mr Horkan's generosity to me whether it was season tickets for UCD AFC, tickets to Ireland matches or help with matters on campus. We had many chats with all the Horkans over the garden wall in Goatstown. My condolences to the family. He was a very decent man.

Dear Maura and Family. I regret very much that I cannot join you for Gerry’s Funeral Mass to personally offer you my sincerest condolences. However, I will join you via the Church Webcam to participate with you in celebrating Gerry’s life and in wishing him safely home.
I am privileged to have known Gerry from our earliest days together in UCD Engineering seventy years ago! Our lives / careers subsequently drifted apart but circumstances occasionally facilitated our meeting, and thankfully more recent years brought us back together for our frequent Class Lunches.

Gerry and I were officers on the SRC in the 1950s during the presidency of the late Ray Kearns. We met occasionally in the years since then and always he seemed to be the same warm-hearted Gerry I knew so long ago. God rest him and comfort all who knew him.
