Gerry’s passing has given us - the 4 Madden cousins- an opportunity to share fond memories of aunt Eva, Frank, Mary and you Gerry. Back in the 50s and 60s having family in the big city of Dublin seemed so far away-like having someone in New York today. We were blessed to have been in their lovely home in Drumcondra- in awe of Frank’s sweet emporium full of goodies out the back. Sadly your passing Gerry brings to a close that chapter in our lives. God rest you Gerry. We loved getting updates on your studies and travels. Heartfelt condolences to Mette, Peter, Philip and your families. So lovely to think that the Roche dynasty lives on. We like to think there is a bit of ‘King’ blood in those veins. Xxxxxx

Fare well, Neighbour, on your further travels. You were intrepid and curious and contrary and kind and we'll miss your individual take on everything under the sun. What a refreshment, those conversations. Deepest condolences to Mette, Philip, Peter and all who loved you.

Dear Mette, Peter and Philip I am thinking of you during this very sad time. My deepest sympathy.

The first time I met Gerry was in 2008 when we visited him in Ireland. I got a very good contact with him right away even though I spoke very poor English. The second time I met him he was in Bodø at farfar's funeral and I felt the same contact. He was always helpful when we asked him and when my father died in Iraq and I was there, he called me several times and supported me. I am sure if I had spoken better English we would have had a lot more contact. I hope one day I can come to Gerry's mountain to continue the tradition he showed me of placing a coin in a secret place on the mountain. Thank you for your openness and kindness. I'm already missing your e-mails! About sacred mountains, life, death and work-related articles and links. And poems that made me cry - when I needed it. I'll miss sending you updates when milestones are reached - and receiving your applause and your precise feedback that sends me forward. I will miss sending you my frustrations - and getting your confirmation that I am exactly were I should be. I am grateful that you followed me from the sideline on my journey. With your genuine interest, your wisdom and your knowledge. May you find peace on your last journey.

We knew each other since the mid 1970. He was always a bit of an intellectual and loved to philosophize. Usually losing me in the discussion. Trin and him loved to barter over issues.
Ironically Gerry passed on Trins birthday. Suppose they will resume where they left of!
My thoughts are with Mette, Philip and Peter at this traumatic time. Carpe diem and look after each other.

I was so sorry to hear of the death of Gerald. We were neighbours growing up in Drumcondra and during our College days. We subsequently kept in touch irregularly. Our deepest sympathies go to his two children, Philip and Peter, and to his extended family. Raymond and Deirdre

Farewell dear friend Gerry. How I will miss the verbal sparring. Tomas, Charlie, Brian and I hope to take the visit to Dingle that we all planned for last May. Hopefully as soon as the covid travel restrictions allow Charlie and me to fly to Ireland.
