I am truly heartbroken. Gillian was a lovely girl when I first met her in St. Mary’s College. I left Arklow to take a promotion in New Ross shortly after that and we also lived outside of Arklow for over 10 years so, as you can imagine, opportunities for chatting were few and far between. However, it did seem to me that Gillian was always going to appear from around the corner. We moved back to Arklow when l retired and met Gillian on an almost daily basis along the beautiful Vale Road. She always stopped to chat. Always! She was without doubt one of the finest girls that I met in school. Her legacy will surely be her wonderful children. I hope that all her family and friends have the strength to get through the next painful months ahead. I have to say that whoever came up with the idea of the live linkup with the service is a fantastic development. I’m sure that this was aimed at the less mobile among the Arklow flock. To be honest I am watching the link myself where I can stagger and fall to my hearts content.

I was very lucky to get to know Gillian , first on the Parents Assoc of St Peter's boys school and then to work with her in the Parish Office. I have some lovely memories of her which I will treasure. She was a beautiful person and I’m so sorry to learn that she’s no longer with us. My sincerest condolences to Shane, her beautiful children whom she adored, and to all her extended family. RIP
