I wish to offer my sincere condolences to you all on the sad passing of Grace. She taught me French in my first year in the Mercy Secondary School in the early 70s. I remember her very fondly as she was such a warm and kind person, and a true lady in every sense.

My sister and I joined Grace's meditation group in NUIG and we became good friends over the coming years. When Grace walked into our school in the 1970s she brought with her a taste of the exotic. She spoke French beautifully, had spent time abroad and treated each student with respect, always reinforcing what was good in us. She stretched our intellects in a way mine had not been, pushing us outside our comfort zones.
I am privileged that we remained friends from that time. She never stopped being my teacher, listening to rambling stories with focused attention. When you were communicating with Grace, you knew that you were the only person in her world right then.
She bore the vicissitudes of life with stoicism. I was conscious of that especially when she lost her dear Maurice. We were all so happy when they found love but it was too fleeting. I remember Grace telling me that Maurice used to leave the little bars of Fry’s Chocolate in unexpected places, so she’d find them when he wasn’t there. No doubt, they brought each other a deep love and respect.
Her ill-health kept her in her house more than she would have liked, I suspect, yet she always reminded me of how lucky she was.
Her spirituality and commitment to the Church were deep. She shared her experiences with me while never judging my belief system.
I will miss her a lot but my solace will be that we shared a world for so long and my life is the richer for having known Grace Kelly Semple.

I am so sad to hear about Grace's passing. I take great comfort at the thought of her being finally re-united with my great-uncle Maurice in heaven. I'll always remember her intelligence and wit, and her sense of fun. I'll also treasure the many letters she wrote me over the years as well as the memories of our wonderful family trips to Galway and Lough Corrib with her and Maurice. It's a blessing to have known Grace.
