We moved to Ayrfield when I was 8 also and Graham was the very first friend I made. We kept that friendship through primary, secondary and our teenage years.

All we had back then was football on the road and mischief. We'd have football matches on the green & he always got to pick a team. This was indicative of his capability on the pitch. He was fast, had skill and an intelligent football brain. I couldn't kick a ball straight. However; he always picked me for his team while simultaneously raising his eyes to heaven saying "Wyerzy" !! His personality on the pitch was the same one he carried through his life. There were no corners to him. What you saw was what you got, quite a unique trait amongst the best of people. In this regard the Parish Priest delivered a powerful statement as to how we keep vulnerabilities hidden while for Graham it was very public. Though our friendship naturally drifted apart, I'd met him several times in my mid 20's while embroiled in that "cul-de-sac of despair" eloquently described by the Parish priest today. He had no problem telling me 'straight up' about the intricacies of what his life was like right in that moment of time. As I said, no corners & always a straight edge. I dont put pen to paper lightly & I could go on & on quite a bit but, this is how I will remember you my friend.

Rest in Eternal Glory, you truly deserve peace.
