Grattan de Courcy Wheeler

Grattan was a great help to me when I was writing the biography of Arthur Guinness, whose wife's mother Mary Grattan was born at Drummin. I once met his beautiful fiancée in Chicago, from whom he sadly had to part to mind his ageing family in Kildare. He lived a full life, and was a keen member of the Kildare Archaeological Society and the Friendly Brothers of St Patrick. Truly a gentleman of the old school who loved Carbury and all his neighbours there.

Sincere sympathy to Grattan's extended family and friends. He was a man of culture and humour and it was a pleasure to work with him on one of his many projects. May he rest in peace.

Very sorry to lose Grattan. He was a good friend and a wonderful companion in Irish history. I will remember him with fondness.

Our deepest condolences to the whole family. It was a privilege to have known him and his family going back just over 50 years. A true gentleman and scholar. May he rest in peace. He earned his place in Drummond history and will never be forgotten.
