I have just heard of the passing of everybody's friend in the genealogical research world that was Gregory O'Connor. I had the pleasure of his company in my house when he came to Galway to lecture to the Western Family History Association. He was the human face of a National Institution
His ability to find documents and his knowledge and kindness will not be forgotten. I am saddened to be writing this and I offer my sympathies to his Wife and family and all his relations. R.I.P
Always kind, helpful, and supportive. Thank you, Greg.
It was such a thrill to first meet Gregory in September 2001 at the 4th Irish Genealogical Congress. On each of my five other visits from the he was exceptionally patient with a budding family historian. Gregory was the linchpin that connected descendants with our Irish ancestors. Thank you and RIP. Sincere condolences to his family and many friends.
Very sorry to read (belatedly) of Greg's passing. He was a lovely man, fondly remembered from his days in Kilternan Parish Lawn Tennis Club. Sympathy to Helen and the family circle.
We are deeply sad and sorry for your loss, we all remember the kindness of Gregory and how friendly he was. He came many times to visit us in Provence and we will cherrish these memories. All are prayers and thoughts are with you in this difficult time. May he rest in peace
Deepest sympathy to Gregory's family and friends on your great loss. I was shocked to discover he had passed away. I'll never forget his kindness to me always and also to my students from Maynooth University when we paid our annual visit to NAI. May he rest in peace
My deepest sympathies Pauline to you and your family on the sudden loss of Greg. Greg and I were colleagues years back in the Department of the Public Service, Kildare Street - and indeed you and I would have met in Alliance Francaise. Greg and I participated in many a quiz together - where his vast and eclectic knowledge ensured our success on many an occasion. In more recent years I would run into Greg every once in a while on the bus - he never changed - he was always in good form - and we always had great chats. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
Heartfelt condolences to Mr O'Connor's family, friends and colleagues. So generous with his time, wide knowledge and patience, he was a gentle man and a gentleman with an unerring ability to locate reliable information. Rest in peace, Mr O'Connor
My sympathies to Gregory's family. I have lost count of the times he dealt helpfully with queries, he was indeed a walking guide to the National Archives.
Sincere sympathies on the sad passing of Gregory. I always enjoyed talking to him on visits to the NAI and at other meetings.
I keep the memory of a gentle, discret and very kind man. I hope that he will rest in peace in the Kingdom of God. In thought with his family
I am shocked and saddened to belatedly learn of the untimely passing of Gregory. As a raw researcher entering the National Archives it was Gregory who put me in the right direction. Over the years we had interesting conversations on my visits and communicated many times by e mail on various research topics. On numerous occasions Gregory steered me to treasured details which I was delighted with. He had an encyclopedic mind on all matters of archival holdings and will be a tremendous loss to the Archives and indeed to researchers like myself. His command of words and phrasing was exemplary and his help and the patience shown (as exemplified in the condolences) was outstanding. He will be missed by many but ,more importantly his family, to whom I offer deepest sympathy. It will be sad on my next visit to the Archives and find that familiar welcoming smile missing. May he rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to you Pauline and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this terrible time. May Gregory rest in peace xx
Our deepest sympathy To Gregory's family and friends. He was such a gentleman and I will miss the many conversations we used to have. He had a great sense of humor and a real interest in life and the world around him.

My sincere condolences to Pauline and family on the death of Gregory. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences, all my support and compassion to Pauline, Anne-Louise, Maeve and Neil on Gregory’s death.
I met Gregory for the first time almost thirty years ago during a language stay. He helped me to know Ireland (North/South for dissertations and thesis spending a little time in Bishop street, National Archives as an Erasmus student) and Irish people mainly through law, history and society. I was pleased to be accomodated in his house and introduced to his family and relations. He honored myself and my family visiting us many times in Provence. He was respectful of persons of all origins, so kind and gentle in all manners. Always in a good mood, he played words with a sensitive sense of humour. A perfect « gentil homme ». He had passion for life, knowledge, travels and discovery. Open-minded and curious, he had also interests in almost everything and everybody cultures and civilizations. I was very lucky to meet him and to become friend. We kept in touch for this long period discussing all subjects, international conflicts, diplomacy, politics … And the futures of our families members. So loyal and constant to this lasting relation he was. He will be remembered and sadly missed by all who were lucky enough to meet his road.

A Gregory, a chara, tu es une belle âme qui restera toujours dans notre coeur,
Que Dieu te bénisse et t’accueille en Son paradis,

A Gregory, a chara, you are a beautiful soul who always be in our heart,
God bless and welcome you in Heaven,
Pauline, I was so shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Gregory. My heartfelt sympathy to you, Annalouise, Maeve and Neil on your terrible loss. RIP Gregory.

To the O' Connor family, I wish to send my condolences and sympathy on Gregory's death.
I was shocked and deeply saddened. I knew Gregory from prep school in Marian, we lost contact, until many years ago , I recognized Gregory as his head appeared, then the rest of his body as he made his way upstairs on the number 16 bus. After that I bumped into him regularly on the bus, around town and in TCD. He was always happy cheerful and ready to chat . .I will miss him, but compared to your loss, it will be as nothing. Dave

It was with sad loss that I heard of Gregory's passing and I wish to add my sincere condolences. I shared many the ham sambo and soup with Gregory and enjoyed our chats as we grabbed an extra 5 mins of the break, arriving late for class apologizing for our tardiness, exchanging cheeky grins as we did.
