I was so sorry to learn of Hazels death.. She was a very special lady and made us all feel so so welcome over the many years of Cork Bar outings to Ballymaloe. For me personally we had some lovely family moments & events that will never be forgotten with Hazel at the helm… Ballymaloe has lost a treasure .. My sincerest condolences to Rory &all the Allen family..

My first meeting of Hazel was in the unused kitchens of Fota House in the early 80’s. There was a big dilemma on how to reignite the Aga. My father had asked her to cater for the WHO medical conference…as a 10 year old, I noted how buttery and delicious her short crust pastry was.
In January 1997, Hazel catered for my sisters funeral at my parents house with the most heart warming food and refused to charge my parents.
On a rainy August in 2001, Hazel produced exquisite food for my wedding. As it turned out, her father had passed away that day, and nothing was said…
I remember Hazel and Rory as lovely friends to my parents Bob and Ruth Daly. So sad to hear of her passing. RIP Hazel

I’m so shocked to read of Hazels passing. I went to Canada in 1970 with Hazel after we graduated from Cathal Brugha St.
We worked in Montreal and Ontario.
I worked in Ballymaloe way back in summer 1969.
Hazel rest in peace. You will be greatly missed by your loving family.

Sorry to hear the news of your sister Hazel’s passing. May she rest in peace.

Hazel was the most humble,kindest, hard working and thoughtful lady I have ever known. She was someone who I always had so much respect for. From knowing her from a young age, she guided me as a mentor in the hospitality industry while working in Ballymaloe over the years. Not only that, she always looked after me so kindly. I feel incredibly lucky to have had a great friendship with her since in recent years. Having the opportunity to be able to visit her and have great catch ups and laughs on all my visits home to Ireland. She will be so missed. Ballymaloe will never be the same without her. She will forever be so fondly remembered.

I was truly sorry to learn of Hazel's death, and send my sincere sympathies to Rory, and to their wider family. I have been visiting and staying at Ballymaloe House for over 30 years. During that time it was always a pleasure to interact with Hazel. She had a gentle spirit, a sincere concern for her guests, and always made time to stop and chat. She will be missed by her family and close friends, but also by so many patrons of Ballymaloe House where she was such a calm and reassuring presence. May she rest at peace now.

Always kind and generous, Hazel had a lovely sense of humour and we had many laughs over the years. Personally I was very touched by her help and kindness when my own husband became very ill in Ballymaloe. She will be greatly missed. I am privileged to have known her. My thoughts are with Rory, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Hazel who offered wonderful support to my business during the craft fair many times. I loved her style and lovely warmth. You will be missed.
