I was shocked to hear today of Helen's sudden recent death. My sincerest sympathy to Breda, Alison and Christine at this very sad time.

Although I never met Helen in person, we communicated many times on social media. As a native of New Orleans, I appreciated Helen’s love of my city, culture and music. Helen enjoyed my tales of the Irish in New Orleans and their contribution to the city. May she rest in peace.

Very sad and shocked really to hear of Helen’s passing. We always had good conversations in the Lesotho bookshop in Tralee where she was a regular volunteer.
She was clearly a woman of immense knowledge and interests and always had an eye out for an interesting book for me any time I called in. The chats and banter was always engaging on the different subjects we both shared interest in.

Helen, I can’t believe you’re gone, from this mortal world anyway. And way too quick. You will be so missed.

I was friends with Helen, and a colleague, for many years. Helen, my sister and I, wrote curriculum and delivered training to groups of people with disabilities all over Ireland. All of which was published, along with a PR Handbook for activist community groups, as part of a big EU project. I have great memories of us driving around the country, listening to R.E.M., on our way to training gigs. Good times.

Always fantastic company, and great fun. I learned so much from Helen’s eclectic interests and deep knowledge of literature, art, history and philosophy.

Helen was one of my two best friends from the Journalism program at The College of Commerce, Rathmines, now DIT, in the mid-70’s. She was the finest writer among us, IMHO, and passionate about the craft. I loved her irreverence and boldness then, and her great kindness, love and tolerance for people of all sorts. We remained long distance friends through all the years since, and she visited me in Toronto when she came to see her beloved Uncle Gerald. I hope her family will be comforted by all the love and admiration expressed here for this unique and lovely woman. R.I.P.

Sympathy to Helen's family and friends on her passing. She was such good company and we often chatted about our mutual passion for literature. She was kind and gentle, may she rest in peace. Leaba i measc na naomh dí.

I knew Helen for many years through our shared work, but mostly because of her love of the Arts. Helen had a huge interest in history, music and culture. She loved sharing news about upcoming events and hearing about exhibitions, talks, gigs. I last met her two weeks ago at the Anam Arts Festival, that was Helen. I would often share a coffee with her, she loved her coffee as much as the Arts. I am shocked to hear that she has passed away. I love the photograph that has been posted on the RIP notice, a bright sunny day and Helen on a day out galivanting. My sympathies to her family on their loss. Rest in peace Helen.

Helen and I were first cousins, born within a week of each other. My family moved to England when we were under a year old. We would only occasionally meet Helen from then, during family childhood holidays to Ireland.. She was our only FitzGerald cousin at that time and I will miss her being there.

Helens passing was a huge shock to all of us - She died enjoying life.
