I was shocked and saddened to hear today of Helen’s passing. Deepest sympathy to all the family. When I met with Helen for a coffee recently she told me she wasn’t well but I didn’t realise how serious it was. She was a lovely gentle person. RIP. Pat.

Helen will be much missed. Kind-hearted, warm and caring, she was always ready with a laugh, a chat, and a fabulous bit of baking – love in the form of Florentines and a brown bread with a recipe only shared with an honoured few. (Rightly so) Her great energy for family, friends, work, and community was inspiring. In particular, I loved her cheeky wink and grin, during big family conversations, which invited me into the important secret: “ah let’s not be too serious, it’s all funny really”. Of course she was right, but hard to agree with that today; maybe with time. Her ease of rapport, along with her loving nature is what I am grateful for and forms my lasting memory. As a child she told me to look for the gold and not the glitter; a wisdom I still rely on regularly. She was definitely the gold. Condolences and thoughts with Claire, Kathryn and Victor, her sisters Maureen and Geraldine, and her grandchildren (and extended family) at this time of terrible loss.
