HENRY BLACK

Mr. Black,
I had the unexpected pleasure of meeting you in 2018. I was visiting Cobh from America and happened to notice your car(a beautiful black antique Rover) which I was admiring. You happened to walk by and we had a wonderful conversation. You said “like the car, do you? And explained how you acquired the car in London. You told me it was a rover B series. You then said “the B stands for Buick. It has a big V8 engine. To which I replied, that must really handle the hills very well. You graciously offered to take me and my friend for a drive. We went all around the hills of Cobh. I remember being so impressed with your good nature and your willingness to share different facts about Cobh. After we parted, a lady passing by said “I see you met our local undertaker, Henry Black. She explained that you were an icon in your town and loved to talk about the Titanic experience and just what a great person you were. I was thrilled that I had the opportunity to actually meet you, in planning my next trip to Ireland. I was hoping that our paths again cross. That led me to look you up online, only to see that you had recently passed. The world has lost a true gentleman, but I am very grateful that we did get to meet. May you rest in peace, you were a very gentle, kind soul. It was an honor to know you.

I have just returned from annual leave and heard that this great man has passed away.
I am profoundly saddened to learn of his death.
