We are very sorry to her of Hal's passing and offer sincere sympathy to his wife Aileen and his family and many friends. He was a great member of the community and a tireless worker in many local and church projects. He was a much valued member of the Friends of Collon Church group, and a great help to us with our fundraising, and a pleasure to work with.

We are very sad to hear of the passing of Hal. He was a friend and good neighbour for many years.. Condolences to Aileen and all the family. Our children grew up together especially our daughter Rachael . She spoke today of Happy memories with Jean playing on the farm .Thinking of all the family at this sad time. .

Dear Auntie Aileen and cousins,

I am so saddened by the death of Uncle Hal. I am thinking of everyone in Bawntaffe. From Milwaukee, I send my deepest condolences.

I hardly know where to begin. He, the farm, you, were a center around which our extended family circled, when the cousins were young. We were pulled to Monasterboice at so many moments during those warm years. We would wind our way down the avenue in Mum’s first Cortina for Christmas, weekends, or short visits. I remember those days fondly. They shaped us. I never heard a harsh word from Hal. He was gentle and considerate. I looked up to him. He was generous to a fault. He would be at the door to greet us. I loved seeing him. He would stand by the cabinet, or in front of the fireplace, and we would make small talk. He made me feel like I mattered. Do you remember the feasts at Christmas in the Bianconi grill or the Dungeon in Killiney Castle? During the St. Andrew’s days, he and I used to meet sometimes and go to the rugby games. We met by the 'white marble' in Ballsbridge. We would have fun, chatting about the game, cattle, and the traffic. He took care of me. I will never forget that. He was cautious on the farm, but some of what happened was like an ad for Bord Failte: lambs in the parlor; climbing hay; or just mucking about in the paddock. What I would give to have some of that again! But we have the memories, and those experiences influenced us all. I’m so sorry for your loss. I admired him greatly.

To Pam and all the Sloan family, please our sincerest sympathy on your loss of such a lovely man. I always enjoyed my conversations with Hal on many topics. Sharing our views I found him to be a great listener, but above all I admired his clarity and wisdom.
