To the Murdoch family & friends

Sincere condolences for the passing of a thorough and true gentleman who could still have a laugh with everyone.
Never left anyone out of his praise on the many occasions.
May He Rest Easy
Henry i met at UCC in the ninety fiftys and we both qualified in electrical engineering
He was always great company and
very popular. We kept in touch over the years and he came to all our reunions with his camera and provided us all with records of our events. I was in touch wth him last year to arrange a lunch but he was booked to go abroad. He was always positive and will be greatly missed. May Henry now rest in peace along with his dear wife.Davida.
I am so sorry to have missed Henry’s funeral; I was away all last week. I knew Henry as Chairperson of the board of the Bailey View OMC. He did incredible work in that capacity, being always devoted to the general good of the community. He continued to participate actively in the life of the OMC in the succeeding years, showing constant willingness to share his great knowledge. Henry was a genial and generous man. He will be greatly missed.
My sincere condolences to Henry's family. Amongst many of his admirable attributes was that he was a true gentleman, and I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. May he rest peace.
My sincere sympathy to all his family and friends. He was an absolute gentleman. I was his secretary for some time in the Health Board in Manorhamilton. RIP.
Sincere sympathy to you all on the sad occasion of the death of Henry. He was a much treasured member of our golfing four ball in Dun Laoghaire golf club and a great personal friend. May he rest in peace.
My sincere sympathies to Henry’s family on his passing. May the time and the memories you shared together console you at this sad time. Go ndéana Dia trócaire dá anam uasal.
Sincere condolences to Henry's family and many friends on their sad loss.

Liam M. Nolan, Law Library.
Maeve, Breffni and families - please accept my deepest sympathy on the sad loss of your beloved Dad, Henry.

Your Dad, and our Dad, Tom Gallagher, were classmates in the UCC Electrical Engineering class of 1955-1959. While in college, they spent a summer together in the Smedley Factory in Wisbech, UK, canning peas!

We lost our Dad in December 2022, twenty-one months after losing our adored Mum and Dad’s soulmate, Thelma. A very similar experience to you with your Mum and Dad.

When Dad died, Henry left a message of condolence which we treasure. He referred to Dad’s sporting ability, particularly hurling, and his love of sport which he shared with your Dad. Hoping that our Dads are now together chatting all things sport and engineering!

May Henry Rest in Peace
My deepest sympathy to Henry’s family on your loss. Henry was a giant of a man, full of wisdom and fun. We will miss him dreadfully at the NRH.
I am sorry to miss the funeral as I am abroad. May he rest in peace.
I will miss you greatly Henry. A true character, with a great sense of fairness, honesty, warmth and maybe most of all, humour. Never shy of telling a good story, you seemed to squeeze far more life, out of life, than most ever do.

I'll always remember many things, not least; playing football on the beach in Portugal (eager youth vs canny experience), blasting Ole ole from the car stereo and singing at the top of our lungs while flying down country roads in 1990, so many good days out on Dublin bay in your beloved boats and a few very sick ones... but even then you were kinder than many might be.

When I setup my first business and went to you for advice, you were generous with your time and so constructive and helpful with your insights, a mix of can-do, optimism mixed with utter down to earth realism. Encouraging, witty, good natured and fundamentally helpful and deeply incisive all in one.

You were truly remarkable at making so many things happen in life, living so fully that our lives are all the better for knowing you! Rest in Peace Henry
Maeve, Breffni and families I want to offer my deepest sympathies on Henry’s passing. He and your Mom were such lovely neighbours in Sligo. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. May he rest in peace. Shona Leydon

Sincere condolences to Maeve, Breffni and Hilary and extended Murdoch family, on the passing of Henry. May he RIP,
My deep sympathies to Maeve and all Henry's Family on his passing. Though I only met Henry around 10years ago, when we both arrived to live in Bailey View it truly seems much longer. Along with being a close neighbour and friend - he was always ready with advise whenever it was sought. Mollie Kelly our neighbour & I served with Henry as Chairperson while Directors of the OMC of Bailey View for nearly 3 years. It was an invaluable experience of which we retain fond memories of that very particular time during the Pandemic years. We're all aware of Henry's being a veritable fountain of knowledge on endless topics - and that undoubtedly included his last publication in 2022 'Apartment Living In Ireland' of which he kindly presented a copy to Mollie and myself. What especially will stay in my memory were his stories relating to the NRH and not just listening out of politeness but because I was acutely aware of the truly unbelievable dedication of everybody connected with that Institute as a member of my family had spent over two years in their care. So, I will certainly miss my wonderful neighbours Henry and Davida. May God Bless you Both.
It has been decades since I
last met Henry, but how could you forget him? My connection had been in Aer Lingus, where we both worked in Engineering. I offer my sympathy to all his family, and to Hilary.
Maeve & Breffni,

We were very sorry to hear the sad news of your father’s passing. We have fond memories of all of your family, as next door neighbours in Haddington Lawn for many years. Condolences to you both and the extended Murdoch family.

Deepest sympathies to the Murdoch family on the passing of your beloved Henry. May his gentle soul Rest in eternal Peace.
It's impossible to believe you're gone—and so soon after losing Davida.

That I won’t see you pottering about on a boat in Killaloe.

That we’ll never share another sunny holiday or happy family gathering.

And what about our after-dinner chats? The many tales of adventures, sporting victories, legal battles, and memories from your full and vibrant life.

You approached everything with such positivity, self-belief, warmth, and energy. A true force of nature.

It will be strange to raise a glass to you instead of with you.

Here’s to you, Henry.
We are extremely sorry to hear of your Dad's passing Maeve and Breffni.
He was always hugely supportive to Liam, in his role on the Board and a keen and loyal advocate for the NRC.

For many years he was an active and vibrant member of the Friends of the Library in Trinity College. His great contribution was to make well finished videos of our various outings and travels aboard which were quite wonderful. He always had something to add to the discussions after our lectures. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.

An extraordinary person and wonderful friend. From designing the Vacant/occupied light on the early Aer Lingus planes to his years as Board member and Chair of the National Rehabilitation Board and in between setting the Lahey/Pettigoe line as the boundary for Patients going for medical services to either Letterkenny or Sligo, Deputy Director General of FAS, Board member of First National Building Society, Council member and policy adviser to City & Guilds London, Barrister, Author of the Dictionary of Irish Law now in its 6th edition as well as his personal memoir "Remembering Killaloe" and sportsman extraordinaire who only took up Skiing some 40 years ago when finished with water skiing. Tennis in Fitzwilliam, Golf in his beloved Dun Laoghaire GC. Sailing from the Irish before settling for the shores of Lough Derg. But above all else, it was always family first with Henry. How he loved the entire family being together in Killaloe. A kind and true gentleman who will be greatly missed by everyone who had the joy of knowing him.
May his soul rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to the family members.
My sincere condolences to the Murdoch family on Henry's passing. He was always an entertaining doubles partner in FLTC with his trademark spin and slice returns! His book on Kilaloe (which is signed for my father in law) was a wonderful read. May Henry rest in peace and may you also have many happy memories of a wonderful gentleman.

Deepest Sympathy to the Murdoch family & relations on the passing of Henry. May he Rest in Peace.
“One sees the sun slowly set, yet one is still surprised when it is suddenly dark.” The passing of someone dear to you is never something you can easily accept. What calms the heart is knowing that life was lived to the fullest. Henry is the prime example of this. From being an engineer to being a barrister, from writing books to sailing, from lunch with Prince Philip to spending time in Africa, he has done and seen it all. I wish one day to have a life like Henry to look back on.
I believe only a part of Henry has left us ; the part that awakens whenever I see a boat pass by, watch someone play golf, or correlate anything to the many stories he has shared with me. He lives on.
Deepest sympathy to all of Henry’s family. I had the pleasure of working with him on the board of the NRH for several years. He was always such a gentleman. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Grandad I will miss you and your anecdotes. Your storytelling over dinner with a glass of wine in hand. And Davy half-jokingly telling you to stop talking! Hearing your radio gently playing from your room at all times and your breakfast place set with your portion of porridge ready for each new day. I’m sorry you never got to see any Caribbean beaches this year, but luckily you’ve embarked on more than enough adventures in your time. It’s all these little things that I will remember and cherish most about you. As Heaney wrote, ‘The end of art is peace’ -and if there is an art to living, grandad, you were a wonderful artist.
To dear Brefney and all the family, we are so sad to hear about your dad. We remember with a smile his fabulous inclusion of The Island in his wedding speech at Ballymaloe and am sure that this and all the other memories he leaves with you will bring some solace during this difficult time.
