So sorry to hear of the relatively sudden loss of your mother. I remember her as a person always with a smile and with great patience as I pestered her on how to navigate UCC’s complicated record’s system when I started here. Always willing to help me get the information I needed and to pass on tips on how to do things better. In more recent years she since she left UCC she had an genuine interested in me and how my family were doing. A caring, sincere person, her work and kindness will always be remembered by those she worked with in UCC. I know that she cherished her grandchildren and they will also miss her. Wishing you all the best as you learn to start again without her presence in your lives. It is a difficult new world to get used to without her physical presence beside you.

As a newcomer to Short Walkers Group last Septembert , I was welcomed by Hilary and had plenty of interesting chats along the way, so was very shocked to see that she had died. My sympathies to her daughters and their families.

Dear Rachel and Francesca

It was with great sadness that I learnt of your Mom's passing. I met Hilary at the end of 1994 when I visited UCC for the first time. I have many fond memories of working with your Mom over the years in Ireland as well as of her visits to us in South Africa. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

I got to know Hilary over five years ago, when she welcomed me to her UCC walkers group. We met almost every week. I found her inspiring, kind, caring, tolerant, good fun, adventurous and so generous. What a privilege to have known such an extraordinary human being. I have no doubt that her fellow walkers will celebrate her life every Wednesday morning.

Hilary was such a warm-hearted lady. She taught me a lot. I appreciate the time we worked at the Special Olympics and the lifts she gave me. I couldn't believe this sad news, but all my wish is her rest in peace. Deepest condolence.

So sorry to hear the sad news of Hilary’s sudden passing. Sincere condolences.

May I offer my heartfelt sympathy & sincere condolences to Francesca, Rachel, and all of Hilary's family & large circle of close friends. It truly was a shock to learn (only a few minutes ago) of her passing because, thanks to these times-of-lockdown, I hadn't known about her illness. We both worked in different departments at UCC but interacted a lot back in the early days of provision of an email service for students etc. and then much later, after we both had retired, via a mutual love of hillwalking. Blessed with an inquiring mind and a wide range of interests, she even understood the As Gaeilge saying "ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann", though I suspect she was too modest to realise how much it applied to herself! May her Spirit of Volunteerism live on and flourish! Arrivederla, Hilary...

What a shock it was to hear yesterday of Hilary’s passing – it seems like only a few weeks since she was leading the UCC walkers on their usual Wednesday outing, having first done the recce for suitable tracks and an adjacent coffee shop afterwards; she will be sorely missed.
