Roy Ritchie was an incredibly effective maths teacher who conveyed a deep love of his subject in all of his students in Wesley College during his time there. His strong Christian principles were impressed upon his pupils in his love of his favourite hymns and Bible passages that he referred to during his teaching as well.
Roy Ritchie’s strong and enduring support for the Methodist Church and the local community in Dundrum will be acknowledged for many years to come. I always enjoyed hearing about his work with the Methodist Mission in Nigeria in the years after their independence before the Biafran War took hold in the country.
A lot of the maths and applied maths that helped me through university in Trinity and UCD is thanks to the teaching of Roy Ritchie without any doubt.
I loved hearing about his reminiscences alongside his best friend Earnest Armitage about being a pupil in Wesley College back in Earlsfort Terrace for the school’s 125th anniversary several years ago also. We will miss you Mr Ritchie and thank you for your life of service to Wesley College and the Methodist Church in Ireland too. My deepest condolences to Cherie, his children and his extended family also.

We were so sorry to hear of the death of Roy. He was a man of true courage, faith and kindness.
