So sorry to hear of the passing of Hugh. My sincere condolences to Josie, their family, the extended McManus family, friends and neighbours.
I first encountered Hugh back in 1959 when he commenced work at many locations from Ballinamore to Drumshanbo with the Forestry Dept. In recent years he wrote a wonderful article for "The Head Sheaf" which was part of the Sliabh-an-Iarainn project. The title "Planting Trees and Friendships" could not be more apt where Hugh was concerned. A great family man, hard working, knowlegable, entertaining and a loyal friend to many. He concludes his article saying that by writing it he hopes the men who worked on the mountain will not be forgotten. Amen to that and may Hugh, and the many deceased friends and co workers he mentions, rest in peace.
